3 Army Officers Escape Unhurt After Cheetah Helicopter Crash in Ladakh

Cheetah Helicopter Crash in Ladakh

3 Indian Army officers had a narrow escape after a Cheetah helicopter crashed in the Tangste region near Leh in Ladakh during an operational sortie, officials said on Saturday.

According to officials, the crash took place on May 20 in the mountainous high-altitude area. All three officers on board sustained minor injuries and are reported to be safe.

The helicopter was reportedly piloted by a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major, while Major General Sachin Mehta was travelling as a passenger.

Officials said the difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions in Ladakh once again highlighted the serious operational challenges faced by military pilots deployed in remote mountainous regions.

A selfie reportedly taken by Major General Mehta after the crash later surfaced on social media and quickly went viral, with many users describing the officers’ survival as miraculous considering the rugged terrain and the ageing condition of the helicopter fleet.

Authorities have ordered an official inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The incident has also renewed concerns regarding the safety and reliability of the Indian Army’s ageing Cheetah helicopters, which have remained in service since the 1970s.

The helicopters are widely used by the armed forces for operations in difficult mountain areas such as Siachen and Ladakh because of their ability to operate in extreme high-altitude conditions.

Over the decades, the Cheetah fleet has played an important role in several military missions, including Operation Meghdoot launched in 1984 to secure strategic positions in the Siachen Glacier region.

Ladakh Groups Reach ‘In-Principle’ Understanding With Centre on Legislature, Safeguards and Governance

Ladakh Groups Reach ‘In-Principle’ Understanding With Centre

In a major political development for Ladakh, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Thursday announced an “in-principle understanding” with the Union Government following discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The understanding reportedly emerged after a meeting of the MHA sub-committee, marking one of the most significant breakthroughs since Ladakh became a separate Union Territory in 2019 after the abrogation of Article 370.

Proposal for Elected Legislative Body in Ladakh

According to representatives of LAB and KDA, the proposed framework includes the creation of a Union Territory-level legislative body with elected representatives.

The proposed body is expected to receive:

  • legislative powers,
  • executive authority,
  • and financial powers.

The groups said all bureaucratic officials in the Union Territory, including the Chief Secretary, would function under an elected executive leadership, likely headed by a Chief Minister.

The arrangement is being viewed as an important step towards democratic restoration in Ladakh, which currently functions without a legislative assembly.

Constitutional Safeguards Similar to Northeastern States

The discussions also reportedly included constitutional safeguards aimed at protecting Ladakh’s:

  • culture,
  • land rights,
  • employment opportunities,
  • and demographic identity.

According to the understanding, protections may be modelled on constitutional provisions similar to:

  • Article 371A for Nagaland,
  • Article 371F for Sikkim,
  • and Article 371G for Mizoram.

These special provisions are designed to safeguard local traditions, resources, and indigenous interests.

Centre Explains Position on Full Statehood

During the talks, the Centre reportedly informed the delegations that immediate full statehood for Ladakh may not be financially feasible at present because of limited revenue generation and administrative expenditure requirements.

However, the proposed governance model is being seen as a possible transitional arrangement that could eventually lead toward statehood if financial and administrative conditions improve in the future.

Long-Standing Demands Since 2019

Since becoming a Union Territory without a legislature in August 2019, Ladakh has witnessed sustained protests and public campaigns demanding:

  • full statehood,
  • Sixth Schedule protections,
  • land and job safeguards,
  • and greater political representation.

LAB and KDA have jointly led these movements across Leh and Kargil, organising protests, shutdowns, and negotiations with the Centre.

The dialogue process has gone through multiple rounds under a High-Powered Committee formed by the Union Government. Talks had witnessed occasional setbacks, including tensions and protests reported in Leh during September 2025.

Recent political outreach, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Ladakh and the resumption of negotiations, appears to have helped revive the process.

Details Yet to Be Finalised

The two groups clarified that the understanding reached with the Centre remains “in principle” and that operational details are still to be worked out in consultation with constitutional experts and government officials.

They reiterated that their broader aspirations, including eventual statehood and strong constitutional protections, remain unchanged.

If implemented, the framework could become a major step toward addressing Ladakh’s long-standing political demands while balancing the region’s strategic, ecological, and demographic sensitivities.

Mehbooba Mufti Criticises FIR Against Kashmiri Pandit Protesters Over NFSA Concerns

Mehbooba Mufti Criticises FIR Against Kashmiri Pandit

Mehbooba Mufti has expressed concern over the registration of an FIR against Kashmiri Pandit activists who were protesting against the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in relation to relief and ration benefits for displaced migrant families. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party president said the concerns raised by the Kashmiri Pandit community were based on genuine fears regarding their separate identity and status as displaced migrants, which had been recognised by successive governments over the years.

Mehbooba said that after decades of displacement, uncertainty, and trauma, the community deserved empathy and meaningful engagement instead of criminal cases for expressing its concerns.

Reacting to reports of police action against the protesters, she said the growing tendency to respond to dissent with FIRs and intimidation was worrying and harmful to democratic values.

She added that peaceful protests should not be treated as criminal acts, especially when communities are raising issues connected to their rehabilitation, survival, and legal safeguards.

The former Chief Minister said several Kashmiri Pandit organisations were opposing the move to bring migrant relief rations under the NFSA framework. According to her, many in the community fear the decision could weaken their distinct migrant status and gradually reduce the special relief and rehabilitation measures created for families displaced from the Valley during the 1990s.

She said many community members viewed the move as an attempt to convert a humanitarian issue linked to displacement into an ordinary welfare scheme.

Mehbooba stressed that the matter should be resolved through dialogue and confidence-building measures rather than police action and legal pressure.

“The pain and displacement suffered by Kashmiri Pandits is a reality that cannot be ignored. Any decision affecting them should only be taken after proper consultation with the community,” she said.

She further stated that democratic governments must allow citizens to raise concerns peacefully and warned that using police action against every disagreement only increases mistrust and alienation.

Mehbooba Mufti urged the administration to withdraw the FIR and begin transparent discussions with representatives of the Kashmiri Pandit community regarding their concerns over the NFSA implementation.

Mirwaiz Condemns Remembrances Restrictions on Anniversary of Leaders’ Martyrdom

mirwaiz umar farooq

Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq in a post on X has said that May 21 remains a painful reminder of one of the darkest days in the history of Kashmir, when the people lost their beloved leader and voice, Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq (RA), through his martyrdom.

In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) Recalling the tragic events that followed, Mirwaiz said that the mayhem in which more than 70 mourners were killed and hundreds injured remains deeply etched in the collective memory of the people. He said the sacrifices of the Martyrs of Hawal continue to be remembered with grief, reverence and resolve.

Mirwaiz further said that years later, on the same date, another sane and courageous voice was silenced when Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was snatched from the people.

Expressing strong resentment over the restrictions imposed on remembrance gatherings and tributes, Mirwaiz said it was unfortunate and condemnable that through intimidation, might and media gags, the authorities prevented people from expressing their sentiments and paying homage to their beloved leaders and the Martyrs of Hawal.

He said that even individual visits to Mazar-e-Shuhada, Eidgah, to offer Fatiha prayers were disallowed, while he himself had been placed under house arrest since yesterday evening.

Mirwaiz said that such repressive tactics cannot change reality, nor can they erase the immense contribution of these beloved leaders or their abiding place in the hearts of the people

Why Engineer Rashid Wants to Quit Electoral Politics ?

MP Engineer Rashid

Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief and Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid (Er Rashid) has hinted at quitting electoral politics, citing the immense personal and family toll it has taken over the years.

While addressing mourners at the funeral of his father, Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, in his ancestral village Mawer Payeen, Handwara, Rashid emotionally revealed that he is seriously considering stepping away from contesting elections in the future. He was granted interim bail from Delhi’s Tihar Jail to attend the last rites. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Main Reasons Behind His Decision:

  • Heavy Personal and Family Cost: Rashid has spent several years in jail. During this period, he lost several close relatives, including now his father. The prolonged incarceration and political struggle have caused deep personal suffering for him and his family.
  • Struggle Beyond Power and Elections: He clarified that his fight was never just for votes, power, Article 370, or statehood. It has always been for the dignity, honour, justice, and freedom of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He feels electoral politics may no longer be the most effective way to continue this struggle.
  • Emotional Exhaustion: In his heartfelt address, Rashid said he wants to give “good news” to those who only focus on vote politics. “I may not contest elections in the future… the thought has come from my heart,” he stated, adding that a final decision is yet to be taken.

Strong Appeal for Peace in J&K:

While hinting at quitting elections, Engineer Rashid made an emotional appeal for peace:

  • “Let me remain in Tihar Jail, but let peace prevail in Jammu and Kashmir.”
  • He urged both India and Pakistan to end violence and allow Kashmiris (whether Hindu or Muslim) to live with dignity and without fear.
  • Rashid emphasised that reconciliation, trust-building, and winning the hearts of the people — especially the youth — is the only way forward, instead of using harsh laws and force.

He drew a parallel with authorities trying to reform a man-eating leopard, questioning why the government cannot adopt a similar compassionate approach towards Kashmiris.

This statement comes while Rashid continues to remain lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a terror-funding case, even after winning the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat from prison in 2024.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Urges Parents to Prioritize Holistic Child Development Over Academic Pressure

mirwaiz

At a seminar organized to commemorate the 36th martyrdom anniversary of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Umar Farooq called on parents to take a more active role in the overall upbringing of their children rather than concentrating only on academic achievements. Addressing the gathering at the seminar titled “Holistic Education for a Healthy Society,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq emphasized that true education goes beyond marks, grades, and examinations. He said parents should invest quality time with their children, understand their emotional and social challenges, and contribute to their personality and character development.

“Parents should not limit themselves to monitoring marks and results. They must actively participate in the affairs of their children — spend time with them, encourage physical activities, and help develop their mind, body, and soul,” he said.

The Mirwaiz also expressed concern over the growing addiction to mobile phones and digital devices among children. According to him, excessive screen time is negatively affecting the physical health, mental well-being, and social behavior of the younger generation.

He stressed the importance of a balanced education system that combines academic learning with moral and spiritual values, physical fitness, outdoor activities, sports, and ethical upbringing rooted in Islamic teachings.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that the real measure of success is not producing “toppers” alone, but raising responsible, balanced, and morally grounded individuals capable of contributing positively to society.

The seminar was attended by educationists, scholars, parents, and members of civil society, who discussed the growing challenges faced by the youth in Kashmir and the need for a healthier educational and social environment.

Er Rashid Breaks Down at Father’s Funeral, Says “No One Can Defeat Kashmiris by Force”

Er Rashid Breaks Down at Father’s Funeral

Baramulla MP Makes Emotional Appeal During Funeral Gathering

Handwara, May 20, 2026: Baramulla Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid broke down emotionally during the funeral of his father on Tuesday and made a passionate appeal for peace, dignity, and compassion towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Addressing a large gathering while struggling to hold back tears, the jailed parliamentarian, currently out on interim bail to attend the last rites of his father, said he was prepared to remain behind bars but would continue raising his voice.

“I do not care if I remain in jail forever, but I will not stop speaking,” he said emotionally.

During his address, Er Rashid strongly condemned drug abuse and those involved in promoting narcotics.

“Whoever promotes the use of drugs is not worthy of being called a Muslim,” he said.

He also appealed to both India and Pakistan not to allow ordinary Kashmiris to suffer due to political tensions.

“Do whatever you want between both nations, this time or next, but do not torment my Kashmiris. Do not kill the people of Jammu and Kashmir, whether they are Hindu or Muslim,” he said.

The MP asserted that Kashmiris could not be subdued through force and called for an approach based on love and understanding.

“You take one step forward with love, and we will come running to you. But no one can defeat us Kashmiris by showing off their power,” he added.

Er Rashid further said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should not be viewed as enemies.

“I want to tell the people of India that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not your enemies, nor does our religion, Islam, teach us to be enemies of anyone,” he said.

Welcoming tourists to the Valley, he said visitors were always welcome in Kashmir but urged them not to view tourism through a political lens.

“Tourists are welcome across Kashmir, but do not come with the mindset that you have won Kashmir,” he remarked.

Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of Engineer Rashid, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a prolonged illness. Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers in Mawar area of Handwara.

Mehbooba Mufti Urges End to ‘Witch Hunt’ Against Mourners at Jamaat-e-Islami Leader’s Funeral

Mehbooba Mufti

In a strongly worded appeal, PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has asked the administration to stop what she called a “witch hunt” against people who attended the funeral of senior Islamic scholar and former Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Shaikh Ghulam Hassan. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Speaking to reporters in Kulgam on Tuesday, Mufti said people at the funeral spoke out of genuine emotion and grief. “Shaikh Ghulam Hassan was not only the head of Jamaat but also a learned Islamic scholar. We might not like what they said, but it was not anti-national,” she remarked.

Shaikh Ghulam Hassan, a respected religious figure from Tarigam village in Kulgam, passed away recently after a prolonged illness. His funeral drew large numbers of mourners, many of whom paid emotional tributes to the deceased scholar who had served twice as Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba Mufti, who also visited the bereaved family to offer condolences, emphasised that expressions of sorrow at funerals should not be turned into a matter of suspicion or harassment.

Her statement comes amid reports that authorities may have initiated action against certain individuals over slogans or speeches made during the funeral prayers.

In Kashmir, where personal, religious and political sentiments often overlap, deaths of prominent figures frequently see outpourings of emotion. Mufti’s appeal reflects a broader concern that grief should not be criminalised, especially when it involves paying last respects to a scholar.

The incident has once again highlighted the delicate balance between maintaining law and order and respecting deeply felt religious and cultural sentiments in the region. As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the administration on any specific actions taken against mourners.

Tragedy at San Diego Mosque: Two Teenage Gunmen Kill 3, Then Themselves in Suspected Hate Crime

Tragedy at San Diego Mosque

A heartbreaking act of violence shattered a quiet Monday morning at one of California’s largest mosques.

Two teenage gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego on May 18, 2026, killing three men before turning their weapons on themselves a few blocks away. Police are investigating the attack as a hate crime. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl confirmed the details at a news conference held in a neighborhood park across from the mosque. The suspects, aged 17 and 18 (one reported as Cain Clark), were found dead in a vehicle from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The three victims — all adult men — included a longtime security guard at the center. Chief Wahl praised his actions, saying the guard confronted the attackers and likely prevented the tragedy from becoming far worse. “It’s fair to say his actions were heroic. Undoubtedly he saved lives today,” the chief said. Worshippers and children inside the mosque remained safe.

Motive Under Investigation

Authorities found evidence of “generalized hate rhetoric,” including anti-Islamic writings and hate speech scrawled on a weapon. No specific prior threat was made against the Islamic Center, but the incident is being treated as a hate crime with FBI involvement.

Hours before the shooting, the mother of one suspect had contacted police, reporting her son missing along with several firearms and expressing concern that he might be suicidal.

The Islamic Center of San Diego, the largest mosque in the county and home to the Al Rashid School, has long served as a spiritual and community hub for local Muslims.

This senseless loss has left the community in mourning and sent ripples of shock across the country. As investigators continue to piece together what drove two young men to commit such violence, many are left asking difficult questions about hate, youth, and the safety of places of worship.

Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the entire San Diego Muslim community during this painful time.

NEET Paper Leak Shock: Renowned Maharashtra Coach ‘M Sir’ Arrested by CBI

'M Sir' Arrested by CBI

It was supposed to be just another chapter in the inspiring journey of a small-town teacher who built a coaching empire. Instead, it has turned into one of the most painful headlines in this year’s NEET saga.

On Sunday evening, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar — affectionately known as “M Sir” among thousands of NEET and JEE aspirants — from his residence in Latur, Maharashtra. He is the founder and director of Renukai Chemistry Classes (RCC), a well-known coaching network that helped countless students chase their doctor dreams.

According to the CBI, Motegaonkar was an “active member of an organised gang” involved in leaking and circulating the NEET-UG 2026 Chemistry paper. Investigators claim a copy of the leaked question paper was recovered from his mobile phone during searches. He allegedly received it around April 23 — more than a week before the May 3 exam — and shared it further.

This makes him the 10th arrest in the widening probe that has already shaken the National Testing Agency and the entire coaching industry.

Who is M Sir?

For students in Maharashtra, Shivraj Motegaonkar wasn’t just another teacher. The M.Sc. gold medalist rose from humble beginnings to create a multi-branch coaching empire focused on conceptual clarity and motivational guidance. RCC grew into a major name with nine centres, a strong YouTube presence, and a reputation for producing medical college successes. Many saw him as a mentor who genuinely cared.

That’s what makes this news particularly heartbreaking for his students and their families. One day you’re learning chemical bonding from your favourite sir; the next, you’re reading that he’s in CBI custody.

The Bigger Picture

The NEET-UG 2026 exam has been mired in controversy from the start. After widespread reports of leaks and irregularities, the exam was eventually cancelled and a re-test scheduled. The CBI’s investigation has traced connections from paper-setters to coaching networks, exposing how deep the alleged racket may run.

Motegaonkar’s arrest has once again put the spotlight on the intense, high-stakes world of entrance exam coaching — where lakhs of rupees, sleepless nights, and shattered dreams collide.

As the probe continues and he remains in CBI custody, many are left wondering how someone who built his career helping students could allegedly betray that very trust.

For now, the dreams of thousands of honest aspirants hang in the balance once more — waiting for answers, accountability, and hopefully, a fairer system ahead.

Crime Branch Files Chargesheet Against Retired JKSPDC Engineer in Date of Birth Fraud Case

Crime Branch Raids Multiple Locations in Srinagar

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a retired Superintendent Engineer of the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) for allegedly manipulating his date of birth in official service records to obtain undue service benefits. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

According to police, the chargesheet was presented before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in FIR No. 09/2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

Officials said the case was registered following a written complaint alleging tampering with the service records of the accused officer, who was then serving as In-Charge Superintendent Engineer and has now retired.

A police spokesperson said the investigation conducted by the Crime Branch, now functioning as EOW Kashmir, found that the accused had allegedly changed his date of birth from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 in official records to extend his service tenure and secure additional benefits.

The alleged manipulation was reportedly confirmed through forensic verification reports from Forensic Science Laboratory Srinagar and the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE).

Police further stated that the accused also destroyed his original service book to conceal evidence, leading investigators to invoke Section 201 RPC related to destruction of evidence.

Officials said the investigation has now been completed and the matter has been placed before the court for judicial determination.

The Crime Branch also advised people to remain alert against economic fraud and report such incidents directly to SSP EOW Kashmir.
