Youth Parliament on Drug Abuse

A Youth Parliament programme on the theme “Drug: The Silent Killer” was successfully organised at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

The programme saw active participation from students including Aneeb, Sadia, Shafia, Sumaira, Hayat, Mehak, and Afsana, who shared their views with confidence and clarity.

The Youth Parliament provided a platform for students to discuss the growing problem of drug abuse and its harmful effects on individuals and society. Participants also highlighted the importance of awareness and preventive steps to tackle the issue.

The event was attended by Dr. Pervez Alam, Chief Proctor, along with Dr. Abdul Hannan, Dr. Gulfam Ahmad, and Dr. Tanvir Ahmed.

A week-long advanced research training programme for students and a faculty member from the Central University of Punjab concluded successfully at the Department of Zoology, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU).

The programme was held from April 24 to May 1, 2026, at the research laboratory of Dr. A. A. Shah, focusing on modern techniques in nematode genomics.

Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University successfully concluded its weeklong awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan with a valedictory function organised by the Proctorial Board. The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal.

The department has continued to play a leading role in Arabic teaching and research. It was the first department at the university to introduce the undergraduate course B.A. (Hons.) Arabic. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department successfully launched the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in 2022.

This year, nineteen students from the second FYUP B.A. Arabic batch will complete their studies.

Arabic Language Opens Career Opportunities

Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum addressed the gathering and spoke about the growing global importance of the Arabic language.

He said Arabic is an official language in many oil and gas rich countries, creating wide employment opportunities. He added that career prospects are not limited to Arab countries, as jobs are also available in India through Arab embassies, multinational companies and academic institutions.

He further noted that Arabic is taught in more than forty universities across India and offers teaching opportunities at university and higher secondary levels, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University organised a drug awareness and sensitisation programme for students of the College of Nursing BGSBU under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan.

The programme was arranged by the Proctorial Board BGSBU as part of the university’s continued efforts to promote a healthy and drug-free educational environment.

Vice Chancellor Shares Message

In a message shared on the occasion, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal said universities should not only focus on education but also help students grow socially and ethically.

He encouraged students to follow healthy lifestyles, stay alert against substance abuse, and play an active role in building a safe and responsible society.

Students Join Awareness Event

The event was held at the IT Conference Hall and saw active participation from students, faculty members of the College of Nursing, NCC cadets, and officials of the Proctorial Board.

About the Event

The event was organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

It marked the grand finale for Zone 1 (J&K–Ladakh), with more than 620 young participants from the region. Across India, over 12 lakh youth took part in different stages of this initiative.

‘My Bharat Budget Quest 2026’ is designed to make the Union Budget easier to understand for young people. It started with an online quiz, followed by essay rounds and shortlisting at the state and UT level.
