Addressing the gathering at the seminar titled “Holistic Education for a Healthy Society,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq emphasized that true education goes beyond marks, grades, and examinations. He said parents should invest quality time with their children, understand their emotional and social challenges, and contribute to their personality and character development.

“Parents should not limit themselves to monitoring marks and results. They must actively participate in the affairs of their children — spend time with them, encourage physical activities, and help develop their mind, body, and soul,” he said.

The Mirwaiz also expressed concern over the growing addiction to mobile phones and digital devices among children. According to him, excessive screen time is negatively affecting the physical health, mental well-being, and social behavior of the younger generation.

He stressed the importance of a balanced education system that combines academic learning with moral and spiritual values, physical fitness, outdoor activities, sports, and ethical upbringing rooted in Islamic teachings.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that the real measure of success is not producing “toppers” alone, but raising responsible, balanced, and morally grounded individuals capable of contributing positively to society.

The seminar was attended by educationists, scholars, parents, and members of civil society, who discussed the growing challenges faced by the youth in Kashmir and the need for a healthier educational and social environment.
