Islamic University of Science and Technology organised a torch march on its campus against drug abuse as part of the nationwide #NashaMuktBharat campaign.

The campaign was led by Dr. Zahid Khaki and Dr. Mir Hashim, who highlighted the importance of collective efforts in building a drug-free society.
University officials said IUST remains committed to promoting awareness, healthy lifestyles, and social responsibility among students and the wider community.
The programme was organised by the Provosts (Boys and Girls) along with the Dean of Students at the university.

During the programme, Dr. Abid Shalla and Prof. Rumaan Bashir highlighted the important role mothers play in nurturing compassionate, progressive, and responsible societies. They also spoke about the cultural and emotional significance of celebrating Mother’s Day.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Monisa Qadri, who welcomed participants and guests to the event.

The students honoured were Malik Mohammad Usman and Musaib Farooq, both enrolled in the BA FYUGP programme in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
They were joined by Ahmad Rashid Chadinoo, an English Literature student who is also pursuing Journalism and Mass Communication as a minor subject.

The three students were acknowledged for their active role in anti-drug awareness drives and community-focused social work.

Muzaffar Ahmad Ganai spoke about behavioural patterns, early warning signs, and the importance of timely counselling support for students.
Asifa Rashid Mir explained the legal framework and enforcement measures related to preventing drug abuse.

Prof. Ayaz Hassan Moon, who attended as Chief Guest, discussed the wider issue of addiction and highlighted university efforts to support students.
He said these initiatives are being carried out under the guidance of Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo.

Earlier, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai welcomed participants and explained the purpose of the programme.
She stressed that teachers and administrators play an important role in identifying early signs of substance abuse and responding quickly.
