“SKIMS Achieves Groundbreaking Kidney Transplant, Paving the Way for Hopeful Solutions in Patient Care”

In a significant stride towards advancing patient care, the Department of Urology & Kidney Transplant at SKIMS (Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences) achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully conducting a Swap Kidney Transplant, marking the first such procedure in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Director of SKIMS/EOSG commended Prof. Saleem Wani, Head of the Department of Urology & Kidney Transplant Unit, and associated departments for this notable achievement. Emphasizing that patient care is a top priority at SKIMS, the swap transplant performed by the Urology & Kidney Transplant Department is recognized as a major breakthrough in kidney transplantation, underscoring the institution’s commitment to pioneering advances in patient care.

Prof. Saleem Wani, HOD of Urology & KTU, provided details about the landmark surgery. The procedure involved a 59-year-old patient from South Kashmir with diabetes and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on dialysis since November 2022. His wife, the only available kidney donor, faced a positive CDC cross-match, hindering the transplant. Simultaneously, a 33-year-old patient from Bandipora with CKD stage 5 had his mother as the only kidney donor, but their blood groups did not match. Through a successful swap (donor exchange), both patients received blood group-matched and immunologically compatible kidney donations.

Prof. Wani highlighted the importance of Swap Transplant as a solution to organ shortage, a significant obstacle in kidney transplantation. He emphasized that SKIMS, with its capabilities, successfully conducted the surgery, offering hope to helpless patients. SKIMS, a major contributor to the country’s organ transplant program, has performed over 550 kidney transplants, addressing the critical need for organ availability.

To overcome organ shortage, Prof. Wani underscored the significance of Cadaver Transplant, Swap Transplant, and ABO incompatible Transplant. The Department of Urology & KTU is actively working on awareness programs in collaboration with SOTTO (State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization) and is exploring the initiation of ABO incompatible kidney transplants in the near future.

Prof. Wani acknowledged the constant support and close coordination of the Department of Nephrology, Department of Anaesthesia, and the Department of Immunology. He expressed gratitude to the entire team, including Prof. Arif, Hamid, Dr. Rouf Khawaja, Dr. Sajad Malik, Dr. Sajad Para, Dr. Saqib (Urology), Prof. Ashraf Bhat, Prof. Imtiyaz Wani, Prof. Muzaffar Wani, Dr. Manzoor, Dr. Rais (Nephrology), Prof. Showkat Gurcoo, Dr. Khalid (Anesthesiology), and Prof. Zaffar Amin Shah (Immunology). Special appreciation was given to Kidney Transplant Coordinators Ms. Yasmin and Ms. Ishrat for their efforts in counseling the families.

Omar Abdullah said BJP ‘spreading lies’ about J&K Development

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Monday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for ‘spreading lies’ about J&K’s development, saying people of the UT have been deprived of everything, including electricity.

“Here we are facing worst electricity crisis. When we were ruling here, the situation was much better in J&K. The BJP only believes in spreading lies. If they say crores of funds are spent on development, then why don’t they spend money on purchase of electricity for the UT in the period of crisis,” Omar said while addressing a rally in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The former CM said that BJP has betrayed people of the Union Territory. “We have been betrayed in the name of elections. They (BJP) fooled us in name of providing employment. We have also been fooled by the BJP in the name of development,” he said, adding that it was unfortunate that people were facing power cuts for more than 10 to 12 hours.

On holding of polls in J&K, Abdullah said that when Supreme Court announces its decision on Article 370, they will also announce its decision on the elections in UT.

Abdullah also criticised the granting of bail to an army captain convicted by a general court-martial for his role in the 2020 Amshipora fake encounter case.

Who is Omar Abdullah ?

Omar Abdullah is a prominent Indian politician who hails from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, Omar Abdullah has played significant roles in regional and national politics. Here is an overview of his background and political career:

Background:
Omar Abdullah was born on March 10, 1970, into the prominent political Abdullah family of Jammu and Kashmir. He is the son of Farooq Abdullah, a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and the grandson of Sheikh Abdullah, a key political figure in the region.

Political Career:
Omar Abdullah entered politics at a relatively young age. In 1998, he was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha, representing the Srinagar constituency. He served as a Union Minister of State for External Affairs in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government from 2001 to 2002.

Omar Abdullah became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, assuming office on January 5, 2009. His tenure as Chief Minister continued until March 2015. During his term, he faced various challenges, including dealing with civil unrest in 2010, marked by protests and demonstrations.

In the state assembly elections held in 2014, Omar Abdullah’s party, the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC), faced a setback, and he resigned as Chief Minister. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) formed a coalition government with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became the Chief Minister.

Omar Abdullah has been an active voice on issues related to Jammu and Kashmir and has expressed his views on various national and international platforms. He is known for his articulate communication style and has been a prominent face representing the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

What is BJP?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is one of the major political parties in India. Founded on April 6, 1980, the BJP has grown to become the largest political party in terms of representation in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India’s Parliament. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, here is an overview of the Bharatiya Janata Party:

1. Ideology:

  • The BJP is often associated with the ideology of Hindutva, which seeks to promote the cultural, social, and political dominance of Hinduism. However, the party maintains that it is committed to the principles of secularism and the protection of the rights of all religious communities.

2. Formation and Growth:

  • The BJP was formed through the merger of several political parties, primarily the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the political wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and various other smaller parties.

3. Leadership:

  • Prominent leaders associated with the BJP include Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, and Narendra Modi. Narendra Modi has played a particularly significant role in the party’s recent electoral successes.

4. Electoral Success:

  • The BJP has been successful in several state and national elections. It achieved a historic victory in the 2014 general elections, securing a majority on its own in the Lok Sabha. The party performed well in subsequent elections, including the 2019 general elections.

5. Nationalism and Development:

  • The party often emphasizes issues of nationalism, development, and economic reforms in its electoral campaigns. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the BJP has focused on initiatives such as “Make in India,” “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” and “Digital India.”

6. Policy Positions:

  • The BJP advocates for policies related to economic liberalization, national security, and social conservatism. It supports the idea of a strong and self-reliant India.

7. Coalition Politics:

  • In various states and at the national level, the BJP has engaged in coalition politics. It has formed alliances with other parties to secure power, and it has been a key member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

8. Controversies:

  • The BJP has faced criticism and controversies related to issues such as religious polarization, communal tensions, and concerns about freedom of expression. These issues have been the subject of public debate and discussion.

Omar Abdullah has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant political development in the Union Territory. His return to power comes after the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance secured a majority in the Assembly elections held earlier this year. Together, they hold over 50 seats in the 95-member Assembly, making Omar Abdullah the first Chief Minister since the region’s reorganisation into a Union Territory in 2019.

Challenges and Vision

Omar Abdullah begins his second tenure as Chief Minister with pressing issues to address. The restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is a central demand from both his party and the people, though achieving this requires constructive engagement with the central government. Abdullah has promised a “people-first” approach, focusing on reducing the disconnect between citizens and governance, which many feel has grown in recent years.

The new administration has highlighted unemployment, infrastructure development, and restoring democratic trust as its immediate priorities. Abdullah has emphasised the need for close collaboration with all stakeholders, including the Lieutenant Governor and central authorities, to ensure effective governance.

A Fresh Chapter

This tenure marks Abdullah’s second term as Chief Minister; he previously held the position from 2009 to 2014 when Jammu and Kashmir was a state. His leadership is expected to combine experience with a renewed commitment to addressing the aspirations of the region. Abdullah’s initial actions in office reflect his focus on efficient administration and fostering trust in the government’s ability to deliver.

The swearing-in ceremony, attended by leaders from across the political spectrum, including the Congress and other INDIA bloc members, signals a moment of restored democratic governance in the region. As Abdullah takes charge, he faces the dual challenge of fulfilling electoral promises while navigating the constraints of the Union Territory framework.

His return marks a new chapter in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape, with hopes of progress and reconciliation under his leadership.

Remarkable Journey of Kashmiri Daughters

Dr Tariq Rasool ( well known scientist ) wrote on his facebook wall that ”Our daughters are special & awesome in many ways. We invest the same amount of energy/resources in our children but generally daughters are more responsive, motivated & always trying their best with sincerity & seriousness. Today, more than 70% of our students are females who are keen and ambitious to learn & develop skills”

In the tapestry of family life, the unique threads of daughters weave a story of resilience, determination, and boundless potential. Our daughters, each a shining star in her own right, bring a special kind of magic into our lives. It is a magic born out of the shared dreams, aspirations, and the unwavering support we provide, echoing the sentiment that they are indeed special and awesome in countless ways.

As parents, we invest an equal measure of energy and resources in all our children, fostering an environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive. However, there’s an undeniable truth that daughters often display a remarkable responsiveness, motivation, and an unwavering commitment to giving their best. Their sincerity and seriousness towards their pursuits become a source of inspiration for all those around them.

In our educational landscape, this unique dynamism is vividly reflected. Today, it is heartening to note that more than 70% of our student body comprises extraordinary young women. These daughters, students in their own right, stand at the forefront of a movement characterized by eagerness and ambition. Their desire to learn and develop essential skills is not just a statistic but a testament to the changing narratives of gender roles and expectations.

Our daughters, ambitious and keen learners, exemplify the spirit of progress and resilience. Their journey is a testament to the power of education, empowerment, and the breaking down of societal barriers that once constrained the aspirations of women. As we witness this transformation, it becomes clear that the future is not just female; it is empowered, determined, and ready to make a lasting impact.

In celebrating the accomplishments of our daughters, we acknowledge the importance of nurturing environments that recognize and harness their potential. It is a collective responsibility to continue fostering educational spaces where every child, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

As we look towards the future, guided by the shining examples of our daughters, let us champion their aspirations, provide unwavering support, and create a world where each one can fulfill her dreams without limitations. Our daughters are not just the bearers of dreams; they are the architects of a future that embraces equality, diversity, and boundless possibilities.

Absolutely, fostering an environment of encouragement, support, and equality is crucial for both daughters and sons. In today’s world, it’s essential to recognize and nurture the unique potential of every child, regardless of gender. Here’s an expanded perspective on the importance of encouraging both daughters and sons.

In the journey of parenthood, our responsibility extends beyond gender stereotypes and biases. It is imperative that we encourage, support, and empower both our daughters and sons to reach their full potential. The narrative of empowerment should be all-encompassing, acknowledging the inherent strengths and abilities of every child, irrespective of their gender.

Our daughters, with their unique qualities of resilience, determination, and empathy, deserve every opportunity to explore and excel in their chosen paths. Likewise, our sons, with their individual talents and aspirations, should be encouraged to break free from traditional expectations and pursue their passions without constraints.

In the realm of education and personal development, it is heartening to witness the growing recognition that every child, be it a daughter or a son, deserves equal access to resources, opportunities, and encouragement. The focus is shifting towards creating an inclusive environment where talents are nurtured, ambitions are supported, and dreams are not limited by societal expectations.

Encouraging our daughters as well as our sons is not just about breaking gender stereotypes; it is about fostering a sense of equality that transcends traditional roles. By instilling values of respect, understanding, and open-mindedness, we pave the way for a future where our children can thrive as individuals, unrestricted by predefined societal norms.

As parents, educators, and influencers, we play a pivotal role in shaping the mindset of the next generation. Our commitment to gender equality should reflect in our words, actions, and the opportunities we provide. Let us create an environment where our daughters and sons feel empowered to explore, learn, and grow without the limitations of gender-based expectations.

In celebrating the unique qualities of both our daughters and sons, we contribute to building a society that values diversity, embraces individuality, and recognizes the limitless potential within each child. The path to a brighter future involves fostering an environment where all children can flourish, unburdened by gender biases, and equipped to create a world that values and respects the contributions of every individual, regardless of gender.

“National Conference Expels Prominent Leader Ghulam Rasool Naz Amid Party Division”

The National Conference took a decisive step on Wednesday by expelling Ghulam Rasool Naz, a two-time MLA who also served as the district party president of Bandipora, from its ranks.

In a convention organized by the party, Ghulam Rasool Naz was conspicuously absent, leading to Vice President Omar Abdullah raising some serious accusations. He accused Naz of sowing discord within the Bandipora faction of the party, emphasizing that there is no room for individuals who foster division and weaken the party’s unity. Omar Abdullah stressed that their primary concern lies not in external threats but in the challenges presented by individuals within the party. This was a clear reference to Ghulam Rasool Naz and his daughter-in-law, who had been portrayed by the NC as the party’s representatives in Bandipora.

Furthermore, Omar Abdullah declared that Advocate Nazir Malik, the current constituency in-charge in Bandipora, would be elevated to a prominent role within the party as they gear up for the upcoming elections.

Political analysts suggest that the fracture within the party can be traced back to the appointment of Malik as the constituency in-charge several years ago.
