Head Constable Killed in Terror Attack

Breaking News: Head Constable Killed in Terror Attack on Police Party in Anantnag During Amarnath Yatra Duty

The slain policeman has been identified as Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi. He sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the attack, security forces quickly sealed off the area and launched a massive cordon-and-search operation to track down the attackers. Additional police and security personnel were deployed across Anantnag town as investigations into the incident continued.

According to reports, The Resistance Front (TRF), which Indian authorities describe as an offshoot of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the authenticity of the claim.

The attack comes amid heightened security across Jammu and Kashmir for the annual Amarnath Yatra. However, the pilgrimage has remained suspended for the past four days due to adverse weather conditions and continuous rainfall in the region.

The killing has once again highlighted the security challenges in south Kashmir despite extensive deployment of police and security forces during the pilgrimage season. Officials said operations to identify and apprehend those responsible are continuing.
