Day After Policeman’s Killing, Houses of Two LeT Militants Demolished in Anantnag
Srinagar: Authorities demolished the houses of two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday, a day after a police head constable was shot dead in a militant attack in the town. According to officials, the demolished properties belonged to Aadil Hussain Thokar, a resident of Guree in Bijbehara, and Haroon Ganai, a resident of Hassanpora in Anantnag district. Both are alleged to be active members of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit. (Kashmir Life)
Officials said the demolition followed Wednesday’s attack at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, where Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi of the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police was shot dead while on patrol. The attack marked the first militant strike in the Kashmir Valley since the Pahalgam attack of April 2025. (The Times of India)
Sources said Aadil Thokar’s earlier house had already been demolished following the Pahalgam terror attack, and the newly constructed house at the same location was also razed during the overnight operation. Haroon Ganai’s house in Hassanpora was similarly demolished by authorities.
Following the policeman’s killing, security forces launched a massive search operation across south Kashmir to trace those responsible. Police have also detained and questioned a large number of suspected overground workers (OGWs) as part of the investigation. A high alert remains in force across the Kashmir Valley.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the killing and expressed condolences to the slain policeman’s family. The Lieutenant Governor said those behind the attack would be brought to justice, while a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the District Police Lines in Anantnag before the officer was laid to rest in his native Budgam district.
