Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti will travel to Iran to attend the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after receiving an official invitation from Iranian authorities.

The invitation was extended by Mohseen Qummi, Director of the International Relations Department at the Office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mehbooba Mufti has been invited as a distinguished guest from India to attend the official funeral ceremonies in Tehran.

Speaking about the invitation, Mehbooba Mufti described it as a great honour.

“It is an immense honour for me and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to receive this invitation. I will travel there to pay my last respects to the supreme leader,” she said.

According to the invitation, the state funeral ceremonies will take place in Tehran over several days. The farewell ceremony is scheduled at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla Complex on July 3, followed by commemorative events, while the funeral procession will be held on July 6 as part of the official mourning programme.

The invitation also highlighted the long-standing historical and cultural ties between India and Iran, stating that Mehbooba Mufti’s participation would reflect the friendship and mutual respect shared between the two countries.
