SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to announce the annual summer vacation for schools across the Kashmir Valley from the second week of July as the region continues to experience an intense heatwave.
School Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the government is considering the summer break but has not yet finalised the exact dates. Speaking from New Delhi, she said the decision will be taken after reviewing the weather conditions once she returns to Jammu and Kashmir. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“The final date has not been selected yet. We will assess the situation, choose a suitable date and then issue an official order,” the minister said.
Minister Warns Against Fake Holiday Orders
The minister also urged parents, students and school authorities not to believe fake circulars and holiday orders being shared on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
She clarified that the messages currently circulating online are completely false and have not been issued by the School Education Department.
“The orders being shared on WhatsApp and other platforms are fake. Parents and students should ignore these rumours. The government will issue an official notification through the proper channels very soon,” she said.
Heatwave Behind the Proposed School Break
The proposal for summer vacations comes as Kashmir continues to witness unusually high temperatures. During the last week of June, daytime temperatures in Srinagar and several other districts approached 35°C, raising concerns about the health and safety of students.
The ongoing heatwave has also prompted other government departments to take precautionary measures. The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) recently advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor travel during the hottest hours of the day.
The School Education Department is expected to hold final discussions after the minister returns to Srinagar. An official notification announcing the exact dates and duration of the summer vacation is expected soon.
