Man Killed, Three SOG Personnel Injured After Alleged Rifle Snatching Attempt in J&K’s Doda

According to police, the incident took place around 11:30 pm on Thursday along the Jaie-Gandoh road, nearly 35 kilometres from Bhaderwah town.

A senior police officer said an SOG team had laid an ambush in the high-altitude area following reports of suspicious movement. During the operation, the team intercepted a man identified as Aarif Hussain (30), a resident of Cheeka village.

Police alleged that Hussain attacked the SOG personnel and attempted to snatch a service rifle, triggering a scuffle. During the confrontation, an SOG jawan opened fire, leaving Hussain critically injured. Three SOG personnel also sustained injuries during the struggle.

All four were initially shifted to the Sub-District Hospital, Bhaderwah, before being referred to the Government Medical College (GMC), Doda, for specialised treatment. Hussain later succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Police have also detained a religious preacher in connection with the incident. However, officials said the exact nature of the detainee’s alleged involvement is still under investigation and no further details have been disclosed.

Following the incident, security has been tightened in the region. Additional personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been deployed across Bhaderwah town as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has launched a search operation in the Jaie area to determine whether any other suspects were involved.

Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
