The agreement is the first of its kind in India and aims to spread authentic Census information across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh through the Bank’s wide network of branches and digital platforms.
The MoU was signed by Chief General Manager Ashutosh Sareen on behalf of J&K Bank, while Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director of Census Operations Amit Sharma (IAS) signed on behalf of the Directorate. The signing ceremony was attended by Joint Chief Principal Census Officer Arun Kumar, Deputy Chief Principal Census Officer Manmeet Singh Loomba, General Manager (CC&M) Mohammad Muzaffar Wani, DGM Syed Aadil Bashir and other senior officials from both organisations.
Under the partnership, J&K Bank will use its extensive branch network, digital signages and trusted customer communication channels to spread official Census 2027 information. The campaign will include media outreach, publicity drives and public awareness programmes to encourage people to participate in the national Census.
Speaking at the event, Chief Principal Census Officer and Director of Census Operations Amit Sharma said J&K Bank is one of the most trusted public institutions in both Union Territories, with a strong presence in urban, rural, border and remote areas. He said the collaboration would help deliver authentic Census information directly to residents, strengthen public trust and ensure that everyone is aware of the Census process.
Sharma added that the partnership would further strengthen the Directorate’s awareness campaign by using one of the region’s largest institutional networks. He expressed confidence that the initiative would improve public awareness, reduce misinformation and encourage greater participation in the Population Enumeration process, especially in remote, border and underserved areas.
Chief General Manager Ashutosh Sareen said the Census is one of India’s most important national exercises as it provides the foundation for policymaking, fair distribution of resources and future development planning. He said public awareness and active participation are essential for its success.
Sareen said J&K Bank is proud to contribute to this national mission by using its physical and digital outreach to share authentic information, build public confidence and encourage maximum participation in Census 2027.
As part of the agreement, J&K Bank will display Census awareness posters, pamphlets and standees at its branches, customer service areas, financial literacy centres and other public-facing locations. The Bank will also run Census awareness messages on its digital signages. Both organisations will appoint nodal officers to coordinate the campaign.
The MoU is non-commercial and does not involve any financial commitment from either side. It will remain in force until 31 March 2027, providing a structured framework for promoting informed public participation and supporting the successful conduct of Census 2027 across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
