Director SKIMS Inspects Waterlogged SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Orders Immediate Relief and Long-Term Flood Mitigation Plan

During the visit, Prof. Ganie reviewed the impact of the flooding on patient care and essential hospital services. Expressing concern over the situation, he directed the Principal of SKIMS Medical College and the Medical Superintendent to ensure the immediate restoration of normal hospital functioning and minimise inconvenience to patients, attendants and healthcare workers.

The Director instructed the Engineering Wing to deploy sufficient dewatering pumps and mobilise all available resources to remove the accumulated rainwater from the hospital campus without delay. He stressed that uninterrupted healthcare services must remain the institution’s highest priority despite adverse weather conditions.

Highlighting the recurring nature of waterlogging at the flood-prone hospital, Prof. Ganie said temporary measures were no longer sufficient. He directed the Principal of SKIMS Medical College to submit a comprehensive report within one week detailing the causes of the flooding, immediate remedial measures undertaken and long-term strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

To address the issue permanently, the Director announced the constitution of a high-level committee to formulate a sustainable flood mitigation plan for the hospital. He said the committee’s recommendations would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities to facilitate permanent infrastructure improvements aimed at protecting the hospital from future flooding and ensuring uninterrupted medical services during extreme weather events.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to patient welfare, Prof. Ganie assured that every possible measure would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such situations and to strengthen the hospital’s preparedness against future weather-related challenges.
