Omar Abdullah Leads NC Protest at Jantar Mantar, Demands Immediate Restoration of J&K Statehood

Holding placards and raising slogans in support of statehood, the NC leaders urged the Centre to introduce a Jammu and Kashmir Statehood Restoration Bill during the ongoing session of Parliament. The party maintained that the restoration of statehood is essential for strengthening democratic governance and safeguarding the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah said the National Conference had been compelled to take its demand to the national capital because repeated assurances on restoring statehood had yet to be fulfilled. He reiterated that the party would continue its democratic campaign until Jammu and Kashmir regains its full statehood.

The protest was held under tight security, with Delhi Police deploying additional personnel around Jantar Mantar to maintain law and order. The demonstration remained peaceful as NC legislators and leaders called upon Parliament to act on the long-pending demand without further delay.

The National Conference has consistently maintained that restoring statehood was a commitment made by the Union Government following the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. Party leaders said they would continue to raise the issue both inside and outside Parliament until a concrete decision is taken.

Note: While some reports published before the protest stated that Farooq Abdullah was expected to participate, the latest verified reports covering the protest itself primarily confirm the presence of Omar Abdullah, NC MPs, MLAs and senior leaders. As of now, there is no conclusive confirmation from today’s on-ground coverage that Farooq Abdullah attended the protest.
