Sakeena Itoo Orders Time-Bound Inquiry Into Controversial Samagra Shiksha Books, Warns Strict Action

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Education, Health and Social Welfare Sakeena Itoo on Saturday ordered a time-bound inquiry into the controversy surrounding books published under the Samagra Shiksha programme, stating that those responsible for the objectionable content will face strict action. Describing the matter as “intolerable and unacceptable”, the minister said she had directed the Secretary of the School Education Department to immediately begin an official investigation into the issue.

“The issue is intolerable and unacceptable,” Itoo said, adding that the government has launched a time-bound inquiry to determine how the controversial content was included in the educational books.

She assured that the investigation would be completed without delay and that those found responsible would be dealt with according to the law.

“The inquiry has already been initiated, and the culprits will be punished as per law,” the minister said.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining the quality and credibility of the education system, Itoo said there would be no leniency for anyone found responsible.

She stressed that accountability would be fixed once the inquiry is completed and appropriate action would be taken against all those involved.

The controversy over the content of the Samagra Shiksha books has sparked widespread criticism from various sections of society, prompting the government to order an official investigation into how the disputed material was included in the publications.
