Centre Opens Talks with CJP as Delhi Protest Intensifies Amid Police Action

According to sources, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) New Delhi, Sachin Sharma, is holding discussions with CJP leaders on behalf of the Centre. The protesters were first offered talks with the District Magistrate, followed by a Union Government Secretary and a Minister of State. However, CJP leaders rejected these proposals, insisting they would only hold talks with the Prime Minister or a Union Cabinet Minister. Sources said the party has submitted a list of preferred ministers to the DCP.
Meanwhile, CJP shared a video on its official social media account showing police using batons against protesters. In the post, the party appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “Tell your police to stand down. We are a democracy. The whole world is watching as you try to crush a democratic and peaceful protest.”
Thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar despite tight security arrangements. Mobile internet services were suspended in parts of central Delhi as authorities attempted to control the situation. Videos from the area showed occasional clashes between protesters and security personnel.
Although police tried to stop the crowds, hundreds of people continued to reach the protest site in groups, filling Jantar Mantar and nearby Tolstoy Marg. CJP leaders repeatedly urged supporters to remain peaceful.
Addressing the gathering, Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, praised the participation of young people. She said India’s youth had shown determination and commitment during the protest. However, loud chants from the crowd made it difficult for many people to hear the speeches from the stage.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police reportedly used batons to disperse hundreds of students and youth activists marching from Mandi House Metro Station towards Jantar Mantar. Eyewitnesses said the protesters, including many women, raised slogans against the Centre while trying to reach the main protest site. A heavy police presence remained in the area as authorities worked to prevent further escalation.
The situation remains tense, with security forces continuing to monitor the protest while discussions between the Centre and CJP leaders are underway.
