Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), addressed concerns regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill, asserting that over 90 per cent of Waqf properties consist of masjids, kabristans, dargahs, and imambaras.Speaking to ANI, he emphasised that these properties generate no income, questioning the basis for objections raised against them.
“More than 90 per cent of the properties are in the form of masjids, kabristans, dargahs, and imambaras. There is no income from these properties. So, there is no reason why objections are being raised. These properties have been managed by the Muslim community for hundreds of years,” Maulana Khalid Rasheed said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) launched a nationwide protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Patna.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Chairman of the JPC on the Waqf Amendment Bill, Jagadambika Pal, criticised AIMPLB for its nationwide agitation, accusing the board of politicising the issue.Pal stated, “The way AIMPLB is doing politics in the name of Waqf, they are trying to mislead the minorities and Muslims of the country.”
He further addressed the controversy surrounding the bill, referring to the Joint Parliamentary Committee’s (JPC) report, which indicated that the government is preparing to introduce the amended law. He pointed out that despite the bill not being passed yet, AIMPLB was already organising protests for political reasons.
“Right now, the law hasn’t even come, yet, based on planned politics, they are already heading to Patna,” Pal said. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aims to address key challenges by introducing reforms such as digitisation, enhanced audits, improved transparency, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied properties.
The proposed amendment seeks to ensure that Waqf properties are utilised for their intended purposes, benefiting both the Muslim community and the country as a whole. (ANI)

Bharat Jain, a man from Mumbai, India, is considered one of the richest beggars in the world. According to a report by India.com, Jain has accumulated a fortune of INR 7.5 crore (approximately $900,000) through begging. He also owns two flats worth INR 1.5 crore and runs a stationery shop.
Despite opposition from his family, Jain refuses to give up begging, believing it to be more profitable than many regular jobs. He revealed that some people choose to beg because they earn more money than they would in ordinary employment.
Begging as a Lucrative Profession
Jain is often seen begging in Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Azad Maidan. Over the years, he has earned enough money to invest in real estate and businesses.
Born into a poor family, Jain was unable to afford an education due to extreme poverty. To survive, he started begging at a young age. For the past 40 years, he has spent 10 to 12 hours a day begging, earning around INR 2,000 to 2,500 daily. This translates to a monthly income of INR 60,000 to 75,000, which is higher than many salaried jobs in India.
Wealth Beyond Begging
Despite being a beggar, Jain has purchased flats where he lives with his wife, two sons, father, and brother. He also owns two shops in Thane, generating an additional INR 30,000 per month.
Thanks to his financial success, Jain’s children have studied in expensive convent schools. When asked why he does not quit begging, Jain replied, “I enjoy begging and will continue doing it.”
Charity and Other Wealthy Beggars in India
In an interview with The Economic Times, Jain revealed that he regularly donates to temples and charities. Interestingly, he is not the only millionaire beggar in India.
According to The Enterprise World, other wealthy beggars include:
Laxmi Das from Kolkata, who has a net worth of INR 1 crore.
Krishna Kumar Gite from Nalasopara, who owns a room worth INR 7 lakh, where he lives with his brother.
India’s Begging Population
India has over 400,000 beggars, with West Bengal having the highest number (81,000), followed by Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
Bharat Jain’s story challenges conventional ideas about wealth, work, and survival, proving that even the most unconventional professions can lead to unexpected financial success.
Declaring his unwavering allegiance to India and its constitution, ex Hurriyat Conference leader and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) chairperson Shahid Saleem on Tuesday announced that he was distancing himself and his organisation from the separatist ideologies. Saleem’s recent declaration marks a significant break from his past associations with the divisive forces in Jammu and Kashmir. “I, Shahid Saleem, Chairman JKPM, do hereby solemnly declare. My organization as well as I have no connection or affiliation with either APHC(G) or APHC (A) or any of their constituents or any other entity pursuing separatist or similar such agenda,” Saleem wrote in his media note. Saleem, in his communication, expressed his discontent with the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) as the organisation “has not been able to address the legitimate aspirations and grievances of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“My organization and I do not have any inclination or sympathy for the ideology of APHC, which has not been able to address the legitimate aspirations and grievances of people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said in the notice. The JKPM leader also issued a legal warning against anyone who might attempt to associate his name or that of his organisation with the separatist factions.
Saleem warned that any use of his name or that of his organisation with the APHC of either of its factions or constituents or any other entity pursuing separatist or similar such agenda will be liable to legal action. Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday hailed Shahid Saleem’s decision to break away from separatism in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a “significant victory” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and united India.
The home minister announced that the Democratic Political Movement had also cut ties with separatism.
“Separatism has become history in Kashmir. The unifying policies of the Modi government have tossed separatism out of J&K. Two organizations associated with the Hurriyat have announced the severing of all ties with separatism,” Shah expressed his views through his ‘X’ handle.
In a significant move that could impact US-Pakistan relations, Republican Congressman Joe Wilson has introduced the “Pakistan Democracy Act” in the United States Congress. The proposed bill calls for sanctions against Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, over the continued detention of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The bipartisan bill, which is the first of its kind, underscores growing concerns in Washington regarding human rights violations and political repression in Pakistan.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Wilson, is aimed at imposing sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act. This 2016 Act allows the US government to penalize foreign officials involved in human rights abuses by freezing their assets and barring them from entering the United States.
If passed, the legislation would impose travel restrictions on General Munir and other Pakistani military officials linked to the suppression of political opponents. The bill also mandates that these sanctions can only be lifted if Pakistan transitions to a civilian-led government and releases all political prisoners, including Imran Khan, who has been in detention since August 2023.
Joe Wilson’s Stance and Political Background
Rep. Joe Wilson is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees and leads the Republican Policy Committee. He has been an outspoken critic of Pakistan’s military, frequently accusing it of suppressing democracy and manipulating political outcomes.
Wilson’s latest move aligns with his long-standing support for democracy in Pakistan and his consistent calls for Imran Khan’s release. In his statement on Monday, Wilson reiterated that Pakistan’s military is directly responsible for Khan’s “unjust detention” and that the United States must take firm action to hold its leadership accountable. He also urged former President Donald Trump to use diplomatic measures, such as visa bans, to pressure Pakistan’s military into allowing a fair democratic process.
Implications of the Proposed Sanctions
The proposed sanctions could have far-reaching implications for US-Pakistan relations, particularly in terms of military and diplomatic cooperation. The United States has historically maintained strong security ties with Pakistan, often relying on its military for counterterrorism efforts in the region. However, growing bipartisan concerns over human rights violations and political interference by Pakistan’s military could lead to a shift in this dynamic.
Pakistan’s military, which has long been a dominant force in the country’s politics, has rejected allegations of interfering in democratic processes. General Munir has denied any political involvement, asserting that the military remains neutral. However, critics argue that the military played a key role in ousting Khan from power in April 2022 following a political rift.
US Congressional Support and Future Steps
The bill introduced by Wilson has gained attention among both Republican and Democratic lawmakers. In February, Wilson and Rep. August Pfluger wrote to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging the US government to advocate for Khan’s release. The letter described Khan as “widely beloved” in Pakistan and equated his imprisonment to judicial persecution.
Wilson has also shared his stance on social media, emphasizing that US-Pakistan relations should be based on democratic principles and human rights. His letter, posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stated, “US-Pakistan relations are strongest when they are based on freedom!”
If the bill progresses through Congress, it will undergo debates and amendments before potentially being signed into law. The legislation includes a 30-day review period to assess the proposed sanctions and extends its scope to investigate other Pakistani officials and their families for possible involvement in political repression.
Khan’s Detention and Political Repercussions
Since his removal from office, Imran Khan has led a vocal campaign against Pakistan’s military establishment, accusing it of orchestrating his ouster. His arrest in August 2023 triggered widespread protests across Pakistan, with thousands of his supporters detained and several key members of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), facing legal action.
Despite international criticism and Khan’s repeated calls for democracy restoration, the military-led government in Pakistan has dismissed his claims. General Munir has stated that any letters from Khan would be forwarded to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, further reinforcing the military’s position that it does not interfere in political matters.
Conclusion
Rep. Joe Wilson’s introduction of the Pakistan Democracy Act marks a turning point in US-Pakistan relations, signaling Washington’s growing concern over democratic governance in the South Asian nation. If passed, the bill would place significant pressure on Pakistan’s military leadership by limiting their ability to travel to the United States and freezing their assets.
As the debate over the bill unfolds in Congress, the US government’s stance on Pakistan’s political situation will become clearer. Meanwhile, Khan’s detention remains a contentious issue, both within Pakistan and in international diplomatic circles. Whether the proposed sanctions will succeed in compelling Pakistan’s military to ease its grip on politics remains to be seen, but the move has undoubtedly intensified global scrutiny over Pakistan’s democratic future.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the separatism has become history in Kashmir. Two organizations associated with the Hurriyat have announced the severing of all ties with separatism.
In a post on X, Amit Shah wrote, “Separatism has become history in Kashmir. The unifying policies of the Modi government have tossed separatism out of J&K. Two organizations associated with the Hurriyat have announced the severing of all ties with separatism.”
“I welcome this step towards strengthening Bharat’s unity and urge all such groups to come forward and shed separatism once and for all.” he added.
“It is a big victory for PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of building a developed, peaceful and unified Bharat.” Amit Shah wrote.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a nationwide agitation against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, following its massive protest in Delhi on March 17.
In an official statement, Mohd Vaquar Uddin Latifi, Office Secretary of AIMPLB, confirmed the decision, emphasizing that the board is committed to opposing the bill, which it describes as “controversial, discriminatory, and damaging.”
Speaking on behalf of AIMPLB, SQR Ilyas, the board’s spokesperson and Convener of the Action Committee Against the Waqf Bill, extended gratitude to Muslim organizations, civil society groups, and leaders from Dalit, Adivasi, OBC, and other minority communities for their support.

The United States has removed rewards on three senior Taliban leaders, including Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, who leads a powerful network long blamed for deadly attacks against Afghanistan’s former Western-backed government, according to officials in Kabul, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
Haqqani, who admitted to orchestrating a January 2008 attack on Kabul’s Serena Hotel that left six people dead, including U.S. citizen Thor David Hesla, is no longer listed on the U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice website. However, as of Sunday, the FBI website still displayed a wanted poster for him.
Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani confirmed that the U.S. government had rescinded the bounties placed on Sirajuddin Haqqani, Abdul Aziz Haqqani, and Yahya Haqqani. “These three individuals are two brothers and one paternal cousin,” Qani told AP.
The Haqqani network, a key faction within the Taliban, gained infamy for its deadly insurgent operations following the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. The group was responsible for a series of high-profile attacks, including bombings targeting the Indian and U.S. embassies, the Afghan presidency, and other critical sites. It has also been linked to extortion, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
Zakir Jalaly, an official from the Afghan Foreign Ministry, suggested that the removal of the bounties, alongside the Taliban’s recent release of U.S. prisoner George Glezmann, indicated a shift in U.S.-Afghan relations. He characterised these moves as steps toward moving “beyond the effects of the wartime phase” and fostering diplomatic progress.
Shafi Azam, another official, described the development as a potential turning point in normalization efforts in 2025, citing the Taliban’s recent assertion of control over Afghanistan’s embassy in Norway.
Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, China has been the most prominent nation to officially accept one of their diplomats. Other countries, including India and Qatar, ged with Taliban representatives in an unofficial capacity, while U.S. envoys have also held meetings with Taliban officials.

The Jammu & Kashmir Government on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that SKIMS Soura continues to be an autonomous institution and there has been no change regarding it in the pre and post- reorganization business rules of J&K Government.
It also claimed that capital expenditure funds ranging from Rs 21 crore to Rs 34 crore were lapsed in SKIMS Soura during the last three financial years.
In its reply to a question of MLA Tangmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah, Minister in-charge Health and Medical Education Sakina Masood Ittoo informed the House that SKIMS continues to be an autonomous institution.
“SKIMS Soura was established in the year 1976. SKIMS continues to be an autonomous institution. This is true for both SKIMS as a tertiary care hospital and as a deemed university. It continues to grant degrees as per SKIMS (Grant of Degrees Act), 1983. Further the Budget allocation for SKIMS continues to be on the grants of the Health Department, as was previously,” the minister said.
The government said that there has been no change in business rules of the J & K Government vis-à-vis SKIMS.
“As per the First Schedule of Government Business Rules of erstwhile State of J&K, the subject of SKIMS was assigned to Health of Medical Education and post re-organisation the same continued via Transation of Business Rules-2019 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs via notification GSR-534(e), dated 27.08.2020. So there is no change vis-à-vis transaction of business rules of SKIMS, “the government said.
The government claimed that recruitment of gazetted and non-gazetted staff of SKIMS Soura was transferred to the Public Service Commission and Services Selection Board, in the interest of patient-care and to make the recruitment process transparent, time –bound and merit-based.
“With respect to appointments and promotions, it was observed that vaccines in both gazetted (including faculty) and non-gazetted positions had got piled up over the years. In order to support and strengthen the institution, in the interest of patient care and to make the recruitment process and promotion processes transparent, time bound and merit-based, the services and expertise of two dedicated recruitment agencies, Jammu and Kashmir Public service Commission and Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board have been provided to SKIMS for recruitment of gazetted (including faculty) and non-gazetted posts,” it said.
“JKPSC is a constitutional body and JKSSB is an expert recruitment body known to have delivered in a very transparent and expeditious manner,” the government added.
The government claimed that services of Jammu & Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation were extended to SKIMS Soura as its internal purchase mechanisms were insufficient and extremely sluggish to meet its requirements.
It claimed Rs 34. 16 crore capital expenditure lapsed in 2021-22, Rs 21.72 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 34.22 crore in 2023-24—(KNO)
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is facing massive backlash after reports surfaced about a secret plan to move 500,000 Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt’s Sinai region. The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar first reported the claim, and several social media users on X backed it up. While Sisi has denied approving any such plan, the controversy has sparked anger and raised big questions about Egypt’s role in the ongoing Israel-Gaza war.
According to reports, Sisi was open to temporarily relocating half a million Palestinians to a special city in North Sinai. The proposal was reportedly discussed with Arab leaders and linked to conditions set by the U.S. for rebuilding Gaza. Some sources even claim Jordan was involved in the talks.
Though described as a “temporary” move, there were no clear details about how long people would stay or whether they could return home. Many feared this could become a permanent displacement, reminding Palestinians of past forced removals, like the 1948 Nakba.
Sisi has repeatedly rejected any plan to push Palestinians into Sinai. In 2023, he warned that such a move could turn the area into a battleground for attacks against Israel. In January 2025, he also refused a similar suggestion from former U.S. President Donald Trump, calling it “unfair and dangerous for Egypt.”
Furious Reactions from Palestinians
News of the alleged plan triggered strong reactions, especially from Palestinian groups. Hamas reportedly called it a “dark morning,” fearing that it would lead to permanent exile. Many Palestinians believe that once they leave their land, they may never be allowed to return.
Sisi’s own words have added to the controversy. In a speech from November 2024, he warned that moving Palestinians to Sinai could “bring the fight from Gaza into Egypt.” This has worried many Egyptians, who fear it could invite attacks and instability.
Egypt’s Tough Position
Egypt plays a key role in mediating between Israel and Hamas. It has helped negotiate ceasefires and aid deliveries, making it a crucial player in the conflict. But if Egypt is seen as supporting Palestinian displacement, it could damage its reputation in the Arab world and spark protests at home.
Some reports claim Egypt is under pressure from the U.S. to take in refugees in exchange for financial aid. However, allowing mass relocation could create security risks, especially in Sinai, where Egyptian forces already battle extremist groups.
What Happens Next?
If Egypt were to approve such a plan, it could change the region’s balance. Sinai might become a new conflict zone, Israel-Egypt relations could suffer, and other Arab countries—like Jordan—might also feel pressured to take in refugees. The U.S. and other global powers could also face criticism for allegedly pushing for displacement under the cover of humanitarian aid.
For now, Sisi continues to deny any involvement, but the reports have already caused global outrage. Whether this was a real plan or just speculation, one thing is clear—any talk of Palestinian displacement will always be a highly sensitive and explosive issue.

A Class 10 student at Four Friends Public School in Gilli Kadal, Srinagar, Zikra spent two years crafting her debut book, which delves into themes of resilience, resistance, and overcoming life’s challenges.
Her book is a reflection of her own journey, filled with self-doubt, perseverance, and a strong determination to share an important message with the youth. Through her writing, she aims to inspire others to rise above setbacks and believe in their ability to overcome difficulties.
A Journey of Dedication and Hard Work
Zikra, originally from Handwara and now residing in Channapora, Nowshera, started her writing journey at a young age. Her passion for storytelling was sparked by reading books and observing the struggles faced by young people around her. However, writing a book was not an easy task.
“It took me two years to write this book. The process was full of self-doubt and moments of questioning whether my words were good enough,” Zikra shared with Rising Kashmir. “But I kept going, and finally, I have published my first book.”
Her story is a testament to the power of persistence. Many young individuals struggle with failures, especially in academics, and tend to give up easily. Zikra’s book serves as a guiding light, reminding them that failure is not the end but a stepping stone toward success.
A Book with a Powerful Message
The primary theme of Zikra’s book revolves around resilience—the ability to get back up after facing failure. She strongly believes that today’s youth often give up too soon, whether it’s due to academic struggles, personal setbacks, or societal pressures.
“I want to tell people what resistance truly means. It’s about standing back up after falling, regaining confidence, and moving forward,” she said. “Many students today feel like their story is over just because they fail an exam, but I want to show them that failure is just a chapter, not the whole book of their life.”
Her book doesn’t just offer advice—it presents relatable experiences and stories that young people can connect with. Zikra’s aim is to change the way young minds perceive failure, teaching them that setbacks are temporary and growth is always possible.
A Father’s Influence and Limited Social Media Use
Zikra credits much of her discipline and focus to her parents, especially her father, Syed Shah Hussain Bukhari. Unlike many teenagers who spend hours on social media, Zikra was encouraged to limit her online presence and focus on meaningful pursuits like reading and writing.
“My parents never allowed me to get too attached to social media. This gave me the time and space to focus on writing,” she explained.
Her father played a key role in inspiring her book. The idea first emerged during a tea-time conversation where he shared stories from his childhood. This casual discussion became the foundation for her book, as she started weaving real-life incidents and the struggles faced by today’s youth into her narrative.
Future Plans and Writing Aspirations
Zikra’s debut book contains elements of suspense, keeping readers engaged while delivering its powerful message. The young author has already hinted at the possibility of a sequel if there is enough demand from readers.
Beyond this, she is also eager to explore fiction writing, believing that storytelling is one of the best ways to share life lessons in an engaging manner. Her ambition is to continue writing books that inspire and empower young minds.
An Inspiring Message for Youth
Zikra hopes that her book will encourage young people to embrace challenges and believe in their ability to succeed, no matter how many times they stumble.
“My message to the youth is simple: even when you fall repeatedly and feel low, trust in yourself and your abilities. Words have the power to change your life, but they must be used wisely. Stay positive and keep moving forward,” she said.
Her journey from a student with a passion for writing to a published author is a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to achieving great things. With determination, hard work, and the right mindset, anyone can turn their dreams into reality.
Conclusion
Syed Zikra Bukhari’s story is one of inspiration and perseverance. At just 15, she has written a book that carries a meaningful message for today’s youth—one that encourages them to rise above failure and keep pushing forward. Her journey serves as a motivation for young writers and dreamers, proving that no dream is too big and no obstacle too great to overcome.
As she continues her writing career, her readers eagerly await what she will create next. For now, her debut book stands as a beacon of hope and resilience, reminding everyone that success comes to those who refuse to give up.
As many as 25 Indian nationals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and 11 in Saudi Arabia have been awarded death sentence but the judgement is yet to be implemented, the government informed Parliament on Thursday.
Citing the “informal information” available with the local Indian Mission, the government also detailed that no Indian national has been executed in the UAE between 2020-2024.
Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha on ‘Indians languishing in prisons in foreign countries’, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said in a written response that, as per the information available with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the number of Indian prisoners, including undertrials, in foreign prisons at present stands at 10,152.
While revealing the country-wise list, the minister highlighted that, due to strong privacy laws prevailing in many countries, the local authorities do not share information on prisoners unless the person concerned consents to the
disclosure of such information. Even countries which share information do not generally provide detailed information about the foreign nationals imprisoned, he mentioned.
“The government attaches high priority to the safety, security and well-being of Indian nationals in foreign countries, including those in the foreign jails. Indian Missions/Posts abroad remain vigilant and closely monitor the incidents of Indian nationals being put in jail in foreign countries for violation/ alleged violation of local laws. As soon as the information about the detention/arrest of an Indian national is received by an Indian Mission/Post, it immediately gets in touch with the local Foreign Office and other concerned local authorities to get consular access to the detained/arrested Indian national to ascertain the facts of the case, confirm his/her Indian nationality and ensure his/her welfare,” the minister informed.
According to the details submitted by the MEA, as many as seven Indian nationals – three each in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and one in Zimbabwe – were either executed or given capital punishment in 2024.
The number of Indian nationals who have been awarded death sentence but the judgement is yet to be implemented include 25 in UAE, 11 in Saudi Arabia, six in Malaysia, three in Kuwait and one each in Indonesia, Qatar, USA and Yemen.
“Indian Missions/Posts abroad provide all possible assistance to Indian nationals who have been sentenced, including with death sentences by the foreign courts. Indian Missions/Posts also provide consular access by visiting the jails and follows up their cases with courts, jails, public prosecutors and other concerned agencies. The jailed Indian nationals are also assisted in exploring various legal remedies including filing of appeal, mercy petition, etc,” Singh noted in his reply.
While the issue of release and repatriation of Indian nationals in foreign prisons is regularly pursued by Indian Missions and Posts abroad with the local authorities concerned, the government also follows it up during consular and other consultations with other countries.
“In addition, the government, through its Missions/Posts abroad and during high level visits, also takes up and pursues grant of amnesty/commutation of sentences of Indian prisoners in foreign countries. India has also entered into prisoner transfer treaties with many nations that allow a person convicted of a crime to be transferred to his/her home country to serve the prison sentence,” the minister detailed in his response.
The Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) has also been set up in Indian Missions and Posts abroad for assisting overseas Indian nationals in distress situations on a means tested basis in deserving cases. The support extended under ICWF includes financial assistance to Indian prisoners for legal aid as well as travel documents/air tickets during repatriation.
In a rare and bold move, a delegation of Pakistani journalists and educators recently visited Israel, challenging the longstanding travel ban imposed by their country. The 10-member group, which included journalists, academics, and influencers, embarked on the journey through the Israeli NGO Sharaka, an organization dedicated to fostering dialogue and understanding between Israel and the Muslim world.
Breaking Barriers Amid Diplomatic Tensions
Pakistan, a predominantly Muslim nation, does not officially recognize Israel and has no diplomatic relations with the Jewish state. Pakistani passport holders are barred from traveling to Israel, making this visit particularly significant. Despite the restrictions, the delegation sought to engage in meaningful discussions, gain firsthand insights, and challenge existing narratives about Israel and its people.
Among the visitors was Sabin Agha, a Karachi-based journalist and documentary filmmaker. Speaking about her experience, Agha said she had long been curious about Israel, wanting to verify the claims made by her country and the broader Muslim world about Jews and the Israeli state. “I am not surprised to find the complete opposite of what the state narrative of Muslim countries was,” she stated in an interview during her visit. She expressed hope that she could serve as a bridge between the two nations, promoting peace and understanding.
A Journey of Discovery
During their stay, the Pakistani delegation visited key historical and political sites across Israel. They toured areas affected by the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel, where they met with survivors and heard firsthand accounts of the conflict. The group also visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, one of Islam’s holiest sites, and prayed there without any restrictions. This experience particularly surprised many of them, as they had been led to believe that Muslims faced limitations in worshipping at the mosque.
Another major stop was the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Center, where the delegation learned about the tragic history of Jewish persecution. The visit provided them with a deeper understanding of the Jewish experience and the need for dialogue to counter long-standing misinformation.
Overcoming Fear and Facing Backlash
While the visit was eye-opening for the delegation, it was not without risks. Many members of the group chose to remain anonymous, fearing repercussions upon their return to Pakistan. The country’s strong anti-Israel stance, coupled with widespread public sentiment against any form of engagement with the Jewish state, makes it challenging for individuals to openly discuss their experiences in Israel.
Kaswar Klasra, editor-in-chief of The Islamabad Telegraph, was among the few willing to speak publicly about the visit. He emphasized the warm welcome the group received in Israel and the stark contrast between reality and the negative portrayal of Israel in Pakistani media. “It will not be easy for Pakistanis to accept the reality because they have been fed baseless negative lies about Israel,” he said. Klasra acknowledged the potential professional risks he faced, including losing his job, but remained committed to sharing the truth.
The Need for Dialogue
The visit highlights the power of direct engagement in breaking down stereotypes and misinformation. While official diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Israel remain distant, people-to-people interactions like this offer hope for greater understanding and potential future engagement.
The delegation’s experience serves as a reminder that open-minded discussions and firsthand knowledge are essential in a world where misinformation often fuels divisions. Their journey may not change Pakistan’s policies overnight, but it has sparked a conversation about the importance of seeking the truth beyond political and ideological barriers.
As global dynamics continue to shift, initiatives like this delegation’s visit could pave the way for a more informed and open dialogue between nations that have long remained disconnected.
