After securing a win from the Handwara Assembly seat, JKPC leader Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday announced his determination to fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood on every available platform.
“The last time I was elected from here, I went to one of India’s most powerful assemblies. Today, after the events of August 5, I find myself going to India’s weakest assembly,” Lone expressed. “Although we haven’t gained as many seats as the NC-Congress, we will continue to push for statehood, both within the assembly and on other fronts,” he added.
Lone also took a swipe at the BJP, accusing the party of conducting “experiments” in Jammu and Kashmir. “It’s time to let the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially Kashmiris, live in peace. Stop experimenting here. You never know what new issues might arise due to these experiments,” he remarked.
As vote counting continues, the National Conference-Congress alliance appears on track to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir, with the assembly poll results revealing unexpected outcomes.
Jairam Ramesh, addressing the media, referred to the National Conference-Congress alliance’s near-majority, stating, “Despite attempts to block the Congress-NC coalition, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have given a clear mandate.”
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also commented, praising the BJP’s performance, which he described as their best showing in a Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election to date.
According to the Election Commission of India, the National Conference secured 42 seats, Congress won 6 seats, and the BJP gained 29 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. (ANI)
