CUKashmir Celebrates International Day of Yoga 2026
Central University of Kashmir celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 at its Tulmulla Campus with great enthusiasm under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Participants Perform Yoga Asanas
Participants performed various yoga exercises and asanas while following a live national demonstration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The session included stretching exercises, standing postures and seated asanas, with participants joining the nationwide Yoga Day celebrations.
Prime Minister Highlights Benefits of Yoga
In his televised address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the growing global acceptance of yoga and its role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and social harmony.
He said healthy ageing means ensuring that advancing age does not limit human potential. The Prime Minister noted that regular yoga practice improves flexibility, maintains energy levels, reduces stress and helps prevent lifestyle-related diseases.
He also stressed that yoga encourages self-awareness and helps individuals adopt healthier lifestyles.
Vice Chancellor Emphasises Importance of Yoga
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ravinder Nath described yoga as one of India’s greatest gifts to the world.
He said yoga is rooted in India’s ancient wisdom and has become a global practice that crosses cultural and geographical boundaries.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the increasing ageing population worldwide and stressed the need for sustainable health practices.
According to him, yoga provides an accessible and scientifically supported way to maintain physical fitness, emotional balance and mental clarity throughout life.
University Exploring Yoga Courses
Prof. Ravinder Nath revealed that the university is considering the introduction of certificate and diploma courses in yoga.
These programmes would provide students and faculty members with both practical training and theoretical knowledge of yoga.
Call for Regular Practice
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Kaukab Azeem, who delivered the vote of thanks.
He encouraged participants to continue practising yoga regularly and outlined plans for future activities aimed at promoting health and wellness within the university community.
The event concluded with a strong message encouraging people to adopt yoga as a daily practice for a healthier and more balanced life. (PRO)
