In a statement, Mirwaiz expressed gratitude to Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fathali for facilitating the meetings. He said he was accompanied during the two-day interactions by Aga Syed Hassan and Molvi Imran Ansari.
Mirwaiz said he conveyed solidarity with the people of Iran during what he described as a difficult period. He reiterated his position that war and aggression against Iran should come to an end, stressing that confrontation cannot resolve disputes.
“However grave the differences, the way forward is ultimately through dialogue, diplomacy and engagement,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of unity among Muslims, saying political conflicts and sectarian differences should not be allowed to divide the Muslim Ummah at a time when Islamophobia is growing and people in Iran, Palestine, Lebanon and other regions continue to suffer.
According to Mirwaiz, greater unity within the Muslim community remains an important safeguard against the challenges posed by rising Islamophobia and ongoing conflicts.
Reflecting on Kashmir’s longstanding cultural and historical links with Iran, Mirwaiz highlighted the influence of Persian scholarship, literature, art, craft and spirituality on Kashmiri society.
As a symbol of these historic ties, he said he presented the Iranian leadership with a specially crafted walnut-wood model of Srinagar’s historic Jama Masjid.
He described the gift as a celebration of the deep cultural and historical bond between the people of Kashmir and Iran.
