Israel and Hezbollah Agree to Ceasefire
A senior U.S. official has confirmed that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a renewed ceasefire, which came into effect at 4:00 p.m. local time on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Violence Disrupted U.S.-Iran Talks
The latest escalation led to the cancellation of important talks between the United States and Iran, which were scheduled to take place in Switzerland.
The talks were aimed at implementing a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) designed to end ongoing regional conflict and address concerns related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
Iranian officials reportedly refused to attend the meeting, insisting that military operations in Lebanon must stop before diplomatic negotiations could continue.
Heavy Casualties Reported
The fighting caused significant casualties on both sides.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 21 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting southern and eastern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces reported that four Israeli soldiers were killed during clashes in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Military Response
The IDF said it carried out strikes on more than 80 Hezbollah targets and claimed to have eliminated dozens of militants.
Israeli officials described their actions as a response to what they called a serious violation of previous ceasefire arrangements.
Diplomatic Efforts Continue
Although the ceasefire has reduced immediate tensions, international observers warn that the situation remains fragile.
Neither Hezbollah nor Israel is formally part of the U.S.-Iran agreement, but continued fighting could still undermine wider peace efforts in the region.

The U.S.-Iran diplomatic framework remains open for the next 60 days, giving both sides an opportunity to continue negotiations.
Mediators are now working to reschedule the postponed Swiss talks, while global markets closely watch developments, particularly regarding oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
Analysts believe the ceasefire offers a temporary opportunity for diplomacy, but lasting peace will depend on continued dialogue and restraint by all parties involved.
