The Chief Education Officer (CEO) Poonch issued the order in view of the prevailing inclement weather, heavy rainfall and rising water levels in rivers and nallahs across the district.
The authorities said the safety and security of students and school staff remained the top priority amid the worsening weather conditions.
Accordingly, all government and private schools in Poonch district will remain closed for the day as a precautionary measure.
All concerned authorities and school managements have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.
The decision comes amid concerns over the safety of students and staff as continuous rainfall has led to rising water levels in local rivers and water channels.
Authorities are keeping the situation under watch and have urged people to remain cautious in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and rising water levels.
