SIA Arrests Hizbul Mujahideen Narco Terrorist Manoj Kumar Bhat After 4-Year Hunt Over Alleged Narco-Terror Links
The State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir has arrested alleged narco-terrorist Manoj Kumar Bhat in Jammu, ending a nearly four-year search linked to cross-border narcotics smuggling and alleged terror financing.
Bhat was wanted in a case registered by the SIA in 2022 over his alleged involvement in the smuggling of narcotics across the Line of Control (LoC) and the use of drug money to support terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Alleged Links to Hizbul Mujahideen Handlers
According to official sources, the investigation found alleged links between Bhat and Pakistan-based handlers associated with the terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen.
Investigators allege that narcotics consignments were smuggled across the LoC and distributed in Jammu and Kashmir. The money generated from the drug trade was allegedly channelled back to support the terror network.
The SIA said the investigation helped establish Bhat’s alleged links with handlers operating from across the border. The agency is examining how narcotics trafficking was allegedly used to generate funds for terrorist activities.
Bhat had remained at large since the case was registered in 2022. Acting on specific intelligence, an SIA team traced his whereabouts and arrested him in Jammu.
Wider Narco-Terror Network Under Investigation
The arrest is expected to provide investigators with further leads into a wider alleged narco-terror network operating in Jammu and Kashmir and across the border.
The SIA is now examining the financial trail and investigating possible hawala channels, properties and other individuals allegedly involved in moving drugs and money.
Officials said dismantling narco-terror networks remains a key priority, particularly those suspected of using illegal drug proceeds to fund terrorist activities and strengthen their operational networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhat to Be Produced Before NIA Court
Following his arrest, Bhat has been taken into custody and is expected to be produced before the NIA court.
Further questioning and investigation are underway as the SIA works to establish the full extent of the alleged network and identify other people who may have been involved.
The investigation is continuing.
