Omar Abdullah Visits Flood-Hit Beerwah, Announces Relief for Affected Shopkeepers
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday visited the flood-affected areas of Beerwah in Budgam district to assess the damage caused by recent flash floods and announced relief measures for traders whose shops were damaged by the deluge. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with shop owners and tenants whose business establishments were damaged after heavy rains triggered flash floods in the area. He directed the affected traders to submit documents related to construction permissions to the office of the Deputy Commissioner for verification.
Omar Abdullah said that once the verification process is completed, all shop owners whose structures were built with valid permissions will receive compensation and government assistance in accordance with the rules. He assured the affected families that the administration would extend all possible support to help them recover from the losses.
The Chief Minister also addressed the traders’ demand for temporary relocation to the newly constructed municipal complex. He said the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department would first inspect the building, and if it is declared safe, the government would make arrangements to temporarily rehabilitate the affected shopkeepers.
Responding to another demand raised by traders, Omar Abdullah said the government would examine their request to reconstruct the damaged shops at the same location and process it according to the applicable rules.
The flash floods, caused by incessant rainfall over the past few days, have damaged shops, roads and public infrastructure in Beerwah and several other parts of Kashmir. Relief and restoration work is continuing as authorities remain on alert amid forecasts of further rainfall.
