Opposition MPs Protest Against Modi Government’s Mishandling of the students’ Movement
Opposition Members of Parliament intensified their protests against the Narendra Modi-led government on Tuesday, accusing it of mishandling the ongoing nationwide students’ movement and demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Leaders from the INDIA bloc gathered to condemn the government’s response to the student protests, alleging that the use of police force against demonstrators reflected a failure to address the concerns of young people. The opposition said the Centre should engage with students instead of resorting to crackdowns.
The protesters also questioned why Dharmendra Pradhan continues in office despite mounting criticism over alleged examination irregularities and the government’s handling of the education sector. Opposition leaders argued that ministerial accountability is necessary to restore students’ confidence in the examination system.
Several senior opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, participated in demonstrations and renewed calls for reforms in the examination process, greater transparency and justice for affected students. The protests come after days of student-led demonstrations that have drawn national attention and support from opposition parties.
The BJP rejected the allegations, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stating that the government is prepared to discuss examination-related issues in Parliament. He accused the Congress of politicising the students’ movement and disrupting parliamentary proceedings instead of participating in debate.
