The campaign, titled “Bharat Bachao, Sharia Bachao”, will begin on September 17 and continue until December 15, with public meetings, seminars and peaceful programmes planned across major cities and district headquarters.
The announcement was made at a press conference at the Press Club of India in New Delhi on Monday.
AIMPLB plans nationwide public outreach
According to the board, the campaign will seek to bring together people who support constitutional values, justice, equality and religious freedom.
The AIMPLB said its activities would remain within democratic and constitutional limits, with a dedicated working committee, the Majlis-e-Amal, overseeing the programme.
The board has also appealed to lawyers, activists, intellectuals and members of different communities to participate in the wider discussion.
White paper on alleged discrimination
A major part of the campaign will be the preparation of a detailed white paper.
The AIMPLB said the document will compile what it describes as cases of discrimination against Muslims, alleged violations of constitutional and human rights and other issues concerning the community.
The board plans to circulate the document among media organisations, human rights groups, intellectuals, elected representatives and government institutions.
The AIMPLB has said the purpose is to bring these concerns into a wider public and institutional discussion.
Waqf properties, demolitions among issues raised
The board said the proposed white paper will also examine issues involving Waqf properties, alleged demolitions of mosques and madrasas and arrests of Muslim youth.
These are positions and allegations put forward by the AIMPLB and should be understood in that context.
The organisation said it wants the campaign to create greater awareness about what it considers threats to constitutional protections and religious freedom.
Legal guide on mob lynching
The AIMPLB also announced plans to publish a specialised legal guide dealing with mob lynching.
The guide will explain the constitutional rights available to victims and outline the legal responsibilities of local administrations, according to the board.
The initiative is intended to help affected families and communities better understand the legal avenues available to them.
UCC remains a major concern
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is among the main issues behind the campaign.
The AIMPLB has strongly opposed the implementation of a common civil code, arguing that Muslim personal law is linked to the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom.
The board has said that developments surrounding the UCC require greater public discussion and awareness about the rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
Board says campaign is not only a Muslim issue
The AIMPLB has sought to present the campaign as a broader constitutional and democratic initiative rather than one limited to Muslims.
Board representatives said they would reach out to people from other communities who support justice, equality, democracy and the rule of law.
The emphasis, according to the board, will be on peaceful public engagement and constitutional methods.
Charter of demands to be submitted
The campaign will eventually culminate in the preparation of a Charter of Demands.
The AIMPLB plans to submit the demands to the President of India, with memorandums also expected to be routed through state Governors and district magistrates.
Among the issues expected to feature are demands for stronger action against hate crimes, protection of religious institutions and equal enforcement of the law.
Three months of meetings and seminars planned
From September 17, the board plans to organise public meetings, seminars and other peaceful programmes at different locations across the country.
The campaign is expected to provide a platform for the board to explain its position on Muslim personal law and other constitutional issues while seeking wider public participation.
The AIMPLB has stressed that the activities will remain peaceful and within the framework of the Constitution.

The first major phase of the campaign will begin on September 17, when the AIMPLB’s nationwide outreach programme gets under way.
With the board planning public meetings, a white paper, legal material and a final Charter of Demands, the campaign is likely to keep questions surrounding Muslim personal law, religious freedom and the UCC in the national debate through the coming months.
