Ganderbal: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday flagged off the annual Harmukh-Gangbal Yatra from Naranag in Kangan, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage to the sacred Gangbal Lake. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
A large number of devotees from Jammu and Kashmir as well as other parts of the country gathered at Naranag to participate in the annual pilgrimage.
Speaking to reporters after flagging off the yatra, Sinha extended his greetings to the pilgrims and expressed hope that the pilgrimage would bring peace and prosperity to the region.
“I extend my best wishes to all of them, and I hope that the blessings of this sacred pilgrimage always remain upon the people here. May Jammu and Kashmir continue to move forward on the path of peace and progress,” the Lieutenant Governor said, according to Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad, Kangan MLA Mian Mehar Ali and senior civil and police officials were also present during the flag-off ceremony.
A significant number of Kashmiri Pandits from different parts of the country reached Naranag to take part in the pilgrimage organised by the Harmukh Ganga Gangbal Trust.
Arrangements made for pilgrims
The district administration and other concerned departments have put in place arrangements for the smooth conduct of the yatra.
These include security measures along the route as well as facilities for pilgrims undertaking the journey towards Gangbal Lake.
Gangbal Lake is situated in the upper reaches of Ganderbal district, beneath Mount Harmukh. The annual pilgrimage holds particular religious and cultural significance for the Kashmiri Pandit community.
The yatra brings together devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India for the traditional pilgrimage to the sacred lake.
