Major Police Reshuffle in J&K: 14 Senior Officers Transferred, New IGPs Appointed

The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday ordered a major reshuffle of the police administration, transferring and posting 14 senior police officers across the Union Territory with immediate effect.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The changes have been ordered under Government Order No. 438-Home of 2026 and include several important appointments at the level of Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The reshuffle brings changes to key positions in the Kashmir and Jammu Zones, as well as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Security, Railways and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Major ADG and IGP-Level Changes

Senior IPS officer M.K. Sinha, a 1996-batch AGMUT cadre officer, has been transferred from his post as ADG Headquarters and appointed ADG Criminal Investigation Department (CID), J&K.

Nitish Kumar, who was serving as ADG CID, has been posted as ADG Armed Police, J&K.

At the zonal level, Sujit Kumar, a 2007-batch IPS officer who was serving as IG Security, has been appointed IGP Kashmir Zone against an available vacancy.

Tejinder Singh, a 2008-batch IPS officer who was serving as IGP CID, has been transferred and posted as IGP Jammu Zone, replacing Bhim Sen Tuti.

Following the change, Bhim Sen Tuti has been transferred from Jammu Zone and posted as IG Headquarters, J&K.

Vivek Gupta, a 2007-batch IPS officer, has been transferred from IGP Railways and appointed IGP Security, J&K.

Meanwhile, Uttam Chand has been posted as the new IGP Railways, J&K.

Another key appointment sees Shakti Kumar Pathak, a 2009-batch IPS officer, taking charge as Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), J&K.

DIG and SSP-Level Changes

The government order also includes several changes at the DIG and district SSP levels.

Mubassir Latifi Ameer, a 2011-batch IPS officer who was serving as DIG Personnel at Police Headquarters with additional charge of DIG Training, has been posted as DIG IR Kashmir.

Sahil Sarangal, a 2017-batch IPS officer and outgoing SSP Handwara, has been transferred and posted as SSP Pulwama.

Sunny Gupta, a 2020-batch IPS officer who was serving as Additional SP Anantnag, has been promoted and appointed SSP Kishtwar.

The outgoing SSP Kishtwar, Naresh Singh (JKPS), has been transferred and posted as SSP Rajouri.

Tahir Saleem Khan (JKPS), 2001 batch, who was serving as Staff Officer to the IGP Kashmir Zone, has been appointed SSP Handwara, replacing Sahil Sarangal.

Muzaffar Ahmad Shah (JKPS), 2004 batch, who was serving as SSP SCW Kashmir, has been posted as Staff Officer to the IGP Kashmir Zone, replacing Tahir Saleem Khan.

The latest police reshuffle comes with changes across several important operational, intelligence, security and district-level positions.

With experienced officers being assigned to key posts, the administrative realignment is expected to strengthen policing, security coordination, criminal investigation, intelligence work and anti-corruption efforts across Jammu and Kashmir.
