Veteran Kashmir Student Leader Anwar Ashai Dies at 10 am, Funeral Prayers to Be Held in Srinagar
Srinagar: Veteran student leader Anwar Ashai, a prominent figure in Kashmir’s student and political history, died on Tuesday morning, according to a statement issued by his colleagues and acquaintances. His Namaz-e-Janazah will be offered at 5:45 pm on Tuesday at his residence in Rajbagh, Srinagar.
Long Association With Kashmir’s Student Movement
Anwar Ashai was the son of noted educationist and freedom fighter late Ghulam Ahmad Ashai.
He became associated with student activism in Kashmir during the 1960s, a period when organised student movements were beginning to emerge in the Valley.
Over the decades, Ashai remained associated with Kashmir’s wider student and political movements. His long public life made him a familiar figure among several generations of activists and political workers.
