US Man Caught Near Nepal Border

US National Claiming Ex-Navy Service Held Near Nepal Border Without Passport in Uttar Pradesh

The man identified himself as Jordan Brown, saying he is a resident of California. According to officials, he was intercepted near the Sonauli border crossing in Maharajganj district while trying to enter Nepal through an unauthorised route. During the security check, authorities found that he was not carrying a passport, visa or any other valid travel documents.

During questioning, Brown reportedly claimed he had previously served in the US Navy and also described himself as a former Special Forces serviceman. However, Indian authorities have not independently verified these claims and are continuing to investigate his identity and background.

Brown told investigators that he lost his passport while in Thailand. He claimed he later travelled to Sri Lanka and entered India by sea without proper documentation. Officials said he subsequently travelled through several Indian cities, including Goa and Bengaluru, before reaching the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border.

Media reports said Brown gave differing versions of his travel history during interrogation, prompting security agencies to scrutinise his statements. Authorities are working to verify his identity, travel records and the purpose of his attempt to enter Nepal. The US Embassy has also been informed about the case.

A case has been registered against Brown under relevant provisions related to illegal entry and violations of immigration rules. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and further action will depend on verification of his identity and nationality.
