Srinagar Police Solve Blind Murder Case in Six Hours, Mother and Son Arrested

According to a police spokesperson, the body was discovered on 30 July 2026 wrapped in gunny bags beneath Baba Dawood Khakhi Bridge in the Khanyar area.

Following the recovery, Police Station Khanyar registered FIR No. 49/2026 under Sections 103 and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

SIT Formed to Investigate the Case

Given the seriousness of the case, Srinagar Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of senior officers.

Police said investigators used available evidence and other leads to identify the suspects as:

  • Haleema Bano
  • Moomin Ahmad (her son)

According to police, the two are originally residents of Machil, Kupwara, and were living as tenants in Mughal Mohalla, Rainawari, Srinagar.

Accused Arrested in Kupwara

Police said that after the alleged murder, both suspects fled Srinagar in an attempt to avoid arrest.

However, investigators tracked their movements and arrested them from Lolab in Kupwara within hours of recovering the body.

Victim Identified

During the investigation, the deceased was identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Kalantpora, Hawal, Srinagar.

According to the police, the investigation indicates that the victim was allegedly murdered inside the accused’s rented accommodation following a financial dispute.

Police further alleged that the accused wrapped the body in gunny bags and dumped it into the Babademb Canal in an attempt to conceal the crime and destroy evidence.

Evidence Recovered

Police said several articles believed to be connected with the alleged offence have been recovered during the investigation.

Officials added that further investigation is underway to determine whether any other individuals were involved and to complete all legal formalities.

Police Commend Investigation

Srinagar Police said the swift detection of the case within six hours reflects the coordinated efforts of the investigating team.

The allegations against the accused remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and the case will proceed in accordance with the law.
