PDP Announces August 5 Protests, Reaffirms Demand for Restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A

The party also announced that it would organise peaceful district-level and Union Territory-wide protests on August 5 to press for the restoration of the region’s constitutional position and uphold democratic and federal principles.
Commitment to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s Vision
The resolution reiterated the PDP’s commitment to the vision of its founder, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and his principles of “Peace with Dignity,” dialogue, reconciliation and inclusive governance.
The party said it would continue its constitutional and democratic campaign for restoring the constitutional guarantees that previously protected Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and identity.
Calls for Release of Political Detainees
The PDP also demanded:
- Immediate release of political prisoners and detainees.
- An end to the alleged misuse of preventive detention laws.
- Protection of the democratic rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The party said these measures were necessary to strengthen democratic institutions and public confidence.

Other Key Demands
Besides constitutional issues, the PDP called for:
- Reopening of cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade and travel routes.
- Gradual withdrawal of security forces from civilian areas where militancy has significantly declined.
- Creation of separate divisional administrative units for the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions.
- A fair share of Jammu and Kashmir’s natural resources, including the transfer of at least two major hydroelectric power projects or adequate compensation.
The party also demanded a transparent, merit-based and time-bound recruitment drive to fill more than one lakh government vacancies.
Support for Women’s Representation and Displaced Communities
The resolution welcomed greater political representation for women and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the safe and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits and other displaced communities.
It also expressed solidarity with civilians affected by the conflict in Iran and reiterated that the PDP would continue to pursue its political objectives through peaceful and democratic means.
