Sonam Wangchuk’s Health Worsens During Hunger Strike; AISA Activist Hospitalised on 16th Day

According to a health update shared by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Wangchuk has lost 8.2 kg since joining the protest on June 28. His blood glucose level has fallen to 67 mg/dL, and his blood pressure was recorded at 107/70 mmHg, raising concerns about his health as he continues the fast.

Meanwhile, Deepak, a member of the CPI(ML) Liberation-affiliated All India Students’ Association (AISA), was hospitalised on Monday after his health worsened on the 16th day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.

AISA said Deepak had lost 15 per cent of his body weight, while his blood pressure had remained at a critically low 80/40 mmHg for the past three days. Doctors advised immediate hospitalisation due to the risk of damage to vital organs.

In a later update, the student organisation said doctors confirmed that Deepak was suffering from hypovolemic shock, a serious condition caused by a severe reduction in blood flow to the body’s organs. He is currently receiving treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi.

AISA alleged that despite students being hospitalised during the protest, the Union Government and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had not responded to their demands regarding alleged examination irregularities.

The organisation added that the remaining hunger strikers — Neha, Manish and Aameen — will continue their indefinite fast in support of the ongoing protest.
