The minor went missing on Saturday, May 23, 2026, after leaving her residence to attend a local Darsgah (religious learning centre). When she failed to return by late evening, her family raised an alarm and notified the authorities.
The Budgam Police registered an FIR (No. 139/2026) under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for kidnapping, rape, and murder. A massive, overnight search operation was initiated, involving police teams and dog squads, which ultimately led to the discovery of her body at approximately 7:15 AM on Sunday, May 24, in an orchard plot near her village.
