Those Who Barred Us Today Will Leave Tomorrow: Omar Abdullah Vows to Defy Restrictions, Honour July 13 Martyrs

Speaking to reporters after offering floral tributes at the National Conference headquarters in Srinagar, Abdullah said those who prevented leaders from reaching the Martyrs’ Graveyard would not remain in power forever.

“Those who barred us today will leave tomorrow; only the people of Kashmir will remain here,” he said.

The Chief Minister said no barricades or security restrictions could erase the sacrifices of the July 13, 1931 martyrs. He criticised the decision to seal the graveyard, saying those responsible should first understand the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdullah rejected attempts to portray the events of July 13, 1931 as a religious conflict. He maintained that the movement was a struggle against oppression, for democracy, and against British paramountcy, rather than a fight based on religion.

Questioning the need for the restrictions, he said only a small number of people intended to visit the graveyard to pay respects, yet authorities treated it as a major security concern.

“We are repeatedly told everything is normal, but today’s restrictions tell a different story,” he said, adding that such measures had not been imposed during previous Amarnath Yatra periods.

Abdullah insisted that while leaders were prevented from visiting the graveyard today, they would continue their efforts to honour the July 13 martyrs in the coming days.
