Omar Abdullah Congratulates Kashmir Weavers on National Handloom Award

The two artisans were recognised for their exceptional craftsmanship in weaving the traditional Chanddar Kani Shawl, a celebrated form of Kashmiri handloom known for its intricate designs and skilled craftsmanship.

Congratulating the award winners, Omar Abdullah said their achievement highlights the rich cultural heritage and artistic excellence of Jammu and Kashmir’s handloom tradition.

He said the recognition was a matter of pride for the region and reflected the dedication of local artisans in preserving traditional crafts.

Government to Support Local Artisans

The Chief Minister said the Jammu and Kashmir government remains committed to empowering local artisans, protecting traditional heritage and promoting indigenous crafts.

He also stressed the importance of taking Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional handicrafts and handloom products to national and international markets.

The National Handloom Award provides recognition to artisans who have demonstrated outstanding skill and creativity in the handloom sector.

The recognition of Hajam and Wani is expected to further highlight the importance of preserving Kashmir’s centuries-old weaving traditions while providing greater visibility to its skilled artisans.
