Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Monday, preventing him from attending a scheduled religious gathering at Imam Bara Bemina in Srinagar.
According to a statement issued by the Mirwaiz, he had been invited by Aga Syed Haadi to deliver a sermon honouring the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and the martyrs of Karbala. Planned Address Focused on Shia-Sunni Unity
The Mirwaiz said his proposed address was intended to highlight the shared values of Shia-Sunni unity and pay tribute to the legacy of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and the martyrs of Karbala.
He described Kashmir as a land known for mutual respect, brotherhood and religious harmony, where people of different schools of thought have lived together peacefully for generations.

In his message, the Mirwaiz said that love for the Ahl-e-Bayt (R.A.) and respect for the blessed Companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ remain an essential part of the shared faith and spiritual heritage of Muslims.
