Kashmir’s chief cleric and Hurriyat leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, travelled to New Delhi to attend a special interaction with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to India for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit.

Mirwaiz Voices Concern Over Minab Tragedy
Mirwaiz has previously expressed strong concern over the deadly school strike in Minab, which reportedly killed several children.
His remarks reflected the grief and solidarity expressed in Kashmir over civilian casualties in the wider West Asia conflict.
Historic Kashmir-Iran Connections
The diplomatic engagement also highlighted the long-standing cultural and religious links between Kashmir and Iran.
Kashmir has historically maintained strong intellectual, cultural and spiritual connections with Iran. These links have continued to influence religious and cultural life in the region and have often been reflected in expressions of solidarity during major regional and international crises.
The meeting in New Delhi comes against the backdrop of continuing diplomatic and political developments in West Asia, giving added significance to the interaction between Kashmiri religious leadership and the Iranian president.
