BJP Distances Itself from Objectionable Slogans at Anantnag Rally

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday distanced itself from objectionable slogans allegedly raised during a rally at Housing Colony, Anantnag, stating that the remarks neither reflected the party’s ideology nor the purpose of the event. In a statement issued on the directions of BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, party spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the BJP does not endorse defamatory or derogatory remarks against any individual and remains committed to respecting the dignity of women.

BJP Rejects Objectionable Slogans

Altaf Thakur said the slogans allegedly raised by a few participants represented their personal views and should not be treated as the official position of the BJP.

“Some individuals may have raised slogans based on their personal thinking or emotions, but those slogans do not represent the BJP’s official stand or the views of the leaders who led the rally. The party does not endorse any defamatory or derogatory remarks against anyone,” he said.

Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

The BJP spokesperson said the party has consistently worked towards the empowerment of women and highlighted its support for increasing women’s participation in public life.

“Our party has always upheld the dignity and honour of women. The BJP has been at the forefront of women’s empowerment, and the historic decision to provide 33 per cent reservation for women reflects that commitment,” Thakur said.

He referred to the Women’s Reservation Act, which provides 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, as an example of the party’s commitment.

Calls for Political Decorum

Thakur said the BJP believes in issue-based politics and maintaining political decorum.

He added that the party’s public conduct is guided by democratic principles and constitutional values and reiterated that it remains committed to respectful political discourse.

Clarification After Viral Videos

The clarification came after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed some participants at the Anantnag Housing Colony rally raising objectionable slogans.

The BJP said such remarks should not be attributed to the organisation as a whole and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the social, political and economic empowerment of women.

The party also said it would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s role in public life.
