A Rare Scholarly Achievement
While the memorisation of the Holy Quran is a deeply established tradition across the Muslim world, the complete memorisation of a major Hadith collection such as Sahih al-Bukhari represents a rare and demanding scholarly accomplishment.
Compiled by Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari, Sahih al-Bukhari occupies a central position in Sunni Hadith scholarship and is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative collections of the sayings, actions and traditions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Memorising such an extensive collection requires exceptional dedication, discipline and years of sustained engagement with Hadith literature.
Mufti Showkat Ahmad Qasmi’s achievement was therefore highlighted at the gathering as an example of commitment to Islamic learning and the preservation of the classical scholarly tradition.
Grand Felicitation at Darul Uloom Bilaliya
The special function at Darul Uloom Bilaliya brought together respected Islamic scholars and religious personalities, who felicitated Mufti Showkat Ahmad Qasmi and encouraged him to continue his journey of acquiring, teaching and spreading Islamic knowledge.
The scholars appreciated his perseverance and devotion to the study and memorisation of Hadith, describing the accomplishment as a source of inspiration for students pursuing advanced Islamic education.
Speakers also stressed the importance of preserving the teachings and traditions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and maintaining Kashmir’s rich legacy of Islamic scholarship.
A Proud Moment for Kashmir
The felicitation ceremony was more than a celebration of an individual achievement. It also reflected the Valley’s continuing connection with traditional Islamic education and Hadith scholarship.
The gathering at Darul Uloom Bilaliya provided an opportunity for senior scholars to recognise a young generation’s dedication to classical Islamic learning and to encourage students to pursue knowledge with sincerity, discipline and perseverance.
Mufti Showkat Ahmad Qasmi’s memorisation of the entire Sahih al-Bukhari stands out as a remarkable scholarly accomplishment and an inspiring milestone in the contemporary Islamic academic tradition of Kashmir.
The occasion is expected to encourage more students of Islamic seminaries across the Valley to devote themselves to the study, memorisation and preservation of Hadith literature.
