Har Ghar Tiranga 2026: PM Modi Urges Citizens to Hoist Tricolour as India Marks 80th Independence Day
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign and hoist the national flag at their homes ahead of Independence Day.

In his message, PM Modi described the Tricolour as a source of national pride and inspiration and called on citizens to renew their commitment to contributing towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
He also highlighted the significance of linking this year’s Har Ghar Tiranga activities with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
Ministry of Culture Appeals for Public Participation
The Ministry of Culture has encouraged citizens to hoist the Tricolour at their homes and participate in activities organised under the campaign.
People are also being encouraged to take photographs or selfies with the national flag and upload them through the official Har Ghar Tiranga platform.
The ministry said this year’s programme will include Tiranga Yatras, Tiranga rallies, Tiranga concerts and mass singing of Vande Mataram.
The official Har Ghar Tiranga portal describes the campaign as a citizen-driven initiative aimed at encouraging people to bring the national flag home and develop a personal connection with the Tricolour.
150 Years of Vande Mataram
A major feature of the 2026 celebrations is the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram.
The Government of India launched a year-long nationwide commemoration of the National Song from 7 November 2025 to 7 November 2026. The programme includes cultural events, mass singing, exhibitions and other public activities.
The government has also organised several events in 2026 around the anniversary. In January, the Indian Air Force Band performed Vande Mataram as part of the nationwide celebrations, while the song formed the central theme of the Republic Day 2026 celebrations.
Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign was launched in 2022 under the broader Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programme.
Its objective is to encourage citizens to hoist the National Flag at their homes and strengthen their personal connection with the Tricolour. The campaign also seeks to honour the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle and promote public participation in Independence Day celebrations.
Since its launch, the campaign has expanded to include activities such as Tiranga Yatras, rallies, runs, concerts, exhibitions and the Selfie with Tiranga initiative.
Major Activities Planned for 2026
The 2026 programme includes a range of public and community activities, including:
- Tiranga rallies and processions
- Tiranga concerts
- Bike and cycle rallies
- Exhibitions and cultural programmes
- Tricolour lighting of important locations
- Decorations and Rangoli programmes
- Mass singing of Vande Mataram
- The Selfie with Tiranga initiative
- Special programmes highlighting the spirit of Vande Mataram
The Ministry of Culture has also invited organisations and citizens to participate in activities connected with the national campaign.
States Begin Tiranga Activities
Several states and Union Territories have also been organising activities ahead of Independence Day, including Tiranga Yatras, rallies and cultural programmes.
The campaign is intended to bring citizens, schools, government institutions and local communities together in celebrations centred on the National Flag.
From 2022 to 2026
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has evolved considerably since its launch in 2022. What began as an initiative encouraging households to display the Tricolour has developed into a wider public participation campaign involving cultural, educational and community activities.
The 2026 edition carries additional significance because it takes place during the year-long commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram.
As Independence Day approaches, the government is calling on citizens to participate in the celebrations, display the Tricolour respectfully and take part in events celebrating India’s national identity and history.
