32 Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims Injured After Bus Overturns, Driver Among Seriously Hurt
At least 32 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured early on Tuesday after a bus carrying them lost control and overturned near Hariganiwan in the Gund area of Kangan, Ganderbal district.

Bus Crashes Into Vacant Building
Officials said the driver lost control while negotiating the steep ‘S-Mode’ curve, causing the vehicle to skid off the road.
The bus plunged into a roadside gorge before crashing into an unoccupied structure, which prevented it from falling into the nearby Sindh River, potentially averting a more serious tragedy.
Multi-Agency Rescue Operation Launched
A large-scale rescue operation was immediately launched by multiple agencies, including:
- Jammu and Kashmir Police
- CRPF 118 Battalion
- Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
- State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)
- Army’s 21 Rashtriya Rifles
- 2 Assam Rifles
- Local volunteers
Rescue teams swiftly evacuated all 32 injured pilgrims and shifted them to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Kangan, for emergency treatment.

Several Pilgrims Shifted to SKIMS
Officials said most of the injured sustained minor to moderate injuries.
However, the driver and several seriously injured pilgrims were referred to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, in Srinagar for specialised treatment.
Authorities confirmed that no fatalities had been reported in the accident.

Police have registered a case and launched a preliminary investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, including road conditions and the vehicle’s movement before the incident.
