Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar Found Dead at Police Headquarters in Agartala; Investigation Underway
Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was found dead inside his office at the State Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday, sending shockwaves across the state’s police establishment and administration. According to officials, Dhankar was found unresponsive in the washroom attached to his office chamber at the Police Headquarters. He was immediately rushed to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Chief Minister Manik Saha and Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha later visited the hospital following the incident.
The exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed. While some preliminary media reports have suggested that it may be a suspected suicide, police authorities have not issued a formal statement confirming the cause, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials have said that the findings of the post-mortem examination and forensic investigation will be crucial in establishing the circumstances of the death.
Anurag Dhankar had been serving as the Director General of Police of Tripura since May 2025. A senior IPS officer known for his experience in policing and investigations, he previously served in several key positions during his distinguished career.
