The Mirwaiz had asked for official approval to visit the family of a 12-year-old girl who was recently killed. He described her death as a “brutal and shocking incident.” He wanted to offer his condolences.
In a statement, the Mirwaiz explained that he always follows the rules. He said all his visits need prior permission from the authorities, and he must inform them a day in advance.
He added, “It is strange that even a basic humanitarian gesture of expressing sympathy and condolence with the bereaved threatens the rulers and their narrative of ‘peace and normalcy’.”
