Speaking on the occasion, Lone said the sacrifices made on July 13 deserve proper recognition and respect. He described the day as one that is deeply connected to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and said it continues to await the dignity it deserves.
Lone also criticised the present government, accusing it of failing to restore July 13 as a public holiday.
“This government has made no sincere effort to restore this public holiday and honour the sacrifice of our native heroes. It has chosen political theatre over truth and has turned its back on history,” he said.
He said that history and public memory cannot be erased through government decisions.
“No government order can erase what a people choose to remember,” Lone said, adding that restoring July 13 as a public holiday is not a favour but a long-overdue step towards recognising historical justice.
According to Lone, bringing back the public holiday would be more than a symbolic move. He said it would honour those who lost their lives and reaffirm Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to remembering its history with honesty and respect. (KNS)
