“There is no question of dropping Urdu. People should not spread lies,” he said, adding that some individuals were wrongly presenting a proposal as an official decision.
Proposal Still Under Review
The Chief Minister emphasised that the matter is still under consideration and no approval has been given.
He said:
- No official order exists regarding removal of Urdu
- The communication in question only invited public comments
- The file has not been cleared
Abdullah also stressed that even educated people should understand the difference between a proposal and a final decision.
“Feedback Is Part of Democracy”
Highlighting the process, he said that inviting public opinion is a normal democratic step and does not mean implementation.
“Departments may send proposals, but it is the government’s responsibility to evaluate them,” he said.
Criticism of PDP
Omar Abdullah criticised the PDP, accusing it of trying to mislead people by raising an emotional issue.
He alleged that the party was attempting to divert attention and create confusion among the public instead of engaging constructively.
He also referred to past political developments, claiming the PDP had supported the Bharatiya Janata Party during Rajya Sabha elections.
Final Word
The Chief Minister’s statement aims to clear confusion around the issue, reiterating that no decision has been made regarding Urdu and urging people to rely on official information rather than rumours.
