J&K Government Employee Suspended Over Alleged Bribe for Income Certificate in Jammu
JAMMU: A Jammu and Kashmir government employee has been suspended and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him after he was accused of accepting a bribe to issue an income certificate to a villager, officials said on Thursday. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The action followed a complaint from a citizen who alleged that he was forced to pay money to obtain an income certificate.
Complaint Verified by Administration
According to officials, the complainant approached the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and reported that he had paid money to receive the certificate.
After verifying the allegation, the administration found that the complaint was prima facie true.
Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas announced the action in a post on X, stating that the employee had been suspended and that proceedings for his dismissal from service had been initiated.
“A citizen came to the DC Office yesterday with one line: ‘I had to pay to get my income certificate.’ We verified it. The complaint was prima facie true. The official concerned has been suspended. The proceedings to dismiss the official from service have been initiated,” Minhas said.
Employee Suspended Pending Inquiry
The suspended employee has been identified as Amit Kumar, a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) posted in R.S. Pura Tehsil and currently deployed at Suchetgarh.
According to the suspension order, Kumar has been attached to the office of the Assistant Commissioner (General) in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Jammu, while the departmental inquiry is underway.
DC Urges Public to Report Corruption
Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas reminded the public that services such as:
- Income certificates
- Domicile certificates
- Ration cards
- Fard (land records)
- Other revenue documents
are legal entitlements, and no government employee is authorised to demand money for providing them.
He urged citizens to report any instance of bribery, assuring them that their identities would remain confidential and that every complaint would be investigated promptly.
“Anyone asking for money is stealing from you,” Minhas said.
He further appealed to people not to pay bribes and encouraged them to report corruption without fear.
“Complain, and you will be heard. Your name stays anonymous. The action will be public. Do not pay. Do not adjust. Do not let it go. One complaint moved an entire system yesterday. Yours can too,” he added.
