Iran Claims Strike Destroyed US F-35 Jets in Jordan; US and Jordan Reject Allegations

However, both the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Jordanian Armed Forces have strongly denied the claims, saying the incoming missiles were intercepted and that no aircraft, facilities or personnel were damaged.
Iran Says Strike Was Retaliation
According to statements carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force targeted aircraft shelters and maintenance facilities at Al-Azraq Air Base, also known as Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, which hosts coalition forces.
Iran described the missile strike as retaliation for recent U.S. military operations targeting sites in southern Iran, including areas around Qeshm Island.
The IRGC claimed the attack:
- Destroyed three U.S. F-35 stealth fighter jets.
- Severely damaged three additional aircraft.
- Caused casualties among U.S. military personnel and technicians.
These claims have not been independently verified.
US and Jordan Reject Iran’s Claims
U.S. Central Command dismissed Iran’s account, stating that no American aircraft were destroyed or damaged during the attempted attack.
According to CENTCOM, all incoming missiles and drones were either intercepted by air defences or failed to reach their intended targets, and operations at the air base continued without disruption.
Jordanian military officials also said the country’s air defence systems intercepted five missiles heading towards eastern Jordan before they reached the air base.
Authorities in Amman reported no casualties or damage to military infrastructure.
Independent Verification Still Pending
Independent military analysts have noted that, while the missile launch marks a significant escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States, there is no independent evidence confirming Iran’s claims of destroying multiple F-35 fighter jets.
Analysts are continuing to examine satellite imagery of the base, but early assessments cited by international media have not shown signs of major structural damage consistent with the IRGC’s claims.
