Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday said that the role of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party is to represent the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the national capital, rejecting claims that the party works as an “agent of Delhi”.
Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Bukhari said, “We are not Delhi’s agents here. Our job is to take J&K’s voice to Delhi, not to bring Delhi’s orders to J&K.” Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The Apni Party leader said his party believes in a people-focused political system and completely opposes “family rule” in Jammu and Kashmir politics.
He said the party was created on inclusive values where any hardworking party worker can become a leader. Bukhari also stated that none of his family members or relatives are part of the party’s political structure.
He further claimed that the 2024 elections were fought using “misleading narratives and emotional polarisation”.
Bukhari expressed concern over political campaigns being conducted on religious lines, saying such trends are dangerous for the democratic system of Jammu and Kashmir, which he said has traditionally stayed above these divisions.
The Apni Party chief also accused the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party of following “double standards” in politics, especially regarding alliances and decisions taken in the legislature.
He alleged that these parties mislead the public while working for their own political interests.
