BGSBU Rajouri Celebrates 80th Independence Day, Calls Youth ‘Architects of Viksit Bharat 2047’
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and pride.

Vice Chancellor Hoists National Flag
The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag by BGSBU Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, followed by the National Anthem.
Prof. Iqbal extended Independence Day greetings to the entire BGSBU community and paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices helped secure India’s Independence.
He particularly remembered the brave men and women of Rajouri and Poonch, describing the region as a land of martyrs. He recalled the courage and sacrifices of local heroes, especially those who defended the country during the 1947–48 conflict.
The Vice Chancellor said their sacrifices serve as a reminder that freedom is not only a privilege but also a responsibility.
Youth Have Key Role in Viksit Bharat 2047
Speaking about India’s progress over the 79 years since Independence, Prof. Iqbal said the country is entering a new era, with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 placing a responsibility on citizens, particularly young people, to contribute to nation-building.
Addressing students, he said, “You are the architects of Viksit Bharat 2047.”
He urged students to embrace discipline, innovation, integrity and a spirit of service.
Prof. Iqbal said education should become a tool for social transformation and encouraged students to use their knowledge to address challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, technology, digital empowerment, entrepreneurship and the development of border areas.
BGSBU’s Role in the Pir Panjal Region
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the university’s special responsibility as a higher education institution located in the strategically important Pir Panjal region.
He said BGSBU should prepare students not merely with academic degrees but with knowledge, character, competence and a strong sense of service.
Prof. Iqbal expressed his vision of making BGSBU an institution recognised not only for producing graduates but also for building character, nurturing values and developing responsible citizens and nation-builders.
Appreciation for University Community
The Vice Chancellor placed on record his appreciation for Registrar Shri Ravi Kumar Sihag, IAS, for his continued efforts towards the university’s development, governance and progress.
He also thanked faculty members, officers, staff, students and security personnel for their hard work, commitment and continued support in the development of BGSBU.
Students Present Cultural Programme
A vibrant cultural programme was also organised as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
Students presented patriotic songs, cultural performances and other programmes that showcased India’s rich cultural heritage.
Their performances created an atmosphere of patriotism and national pride across the university campus.
Faculty members, officers, staff, students and security personnel participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.
Call to Build India’s Future
Concluding his address, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal called upon the university community to honour the sacrifices of the freedom fighters through unity, integrity, excellence and patriotism.
He said the freedom inherited from previous generations must be transformed by the present generation into opportunities, prosperity, knowledge and dignity for every Indian.
The Vice Chancellor reminded students that India’s future is not something that will simply happen, but something that the present generation must actively build through knowledge, responsibility, service and dedication.
