After winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand on Sunday, India’s stalwart batter Virat Kohli shared his thoughts on the title win and said that he is happy as the team was able to play as a unit.
In the final, it was Rohit Sharma who led the way. In the semi-final, it was Virat Kohli with the bat and Mohammed Shami with the ball, among others.
India won five straight games to claim the Champions Trophy 2025, and in each of those contests, a handful of their star players shone brightly. Those contributions led to another title-yielding run in a major ICC event.
Kohli exemplified that in Dubai, scoring an unbeaten ton against Pakistan and a crucial 84 off 98 balls against Australia to help his side qualify for the decider.
“I think to win titles, which has been missing in the past, the whole team must step up in different games. If you look at this tournament, over the course of five matches, everyone has put their hand up somewhere or another,” Kohli said after India’s memorable Final win against New Zealand as quoted by ICC.
These are the things, after playing for so long, you look forward to. Being in situations where you are put under pressure, and you walk in, and you put your hand up.”
After Rohit took full advantage of the new ball, it was Shreyas Iyer that came in and played a commanding helping hand, as India went about surging towards the Black Caps’ total of 251.
Shreyas scored a clutch 48 through the middle overs, where runs had proven hard to come by on the Dubai surface, which was enough to set up KL Rahul for finishing duties, with one over to spare.
“That is why we ended up winning this tournament. People have made such impactful knocks and produced such impactful spells, and it is only a collective effort that can win you a title. I am just so happy we were able to play as a unit and really enjoy ourselves. We have had such an amazing time as a team. It has been an amazing tournament for us,” Kohli continued.
One of the stories of the Champions Trophy has been India’s mid-campaign inclusion of Varun Chakaravarthy, who took 5/42 against the Kiwis in the group stage, in his first tournament appearance. He would go on to become a crucial member of India’s knockout stage run, finishing with nine wickets from his three games.
Chakaravarthy was a key cog in his side’s spin bowling cartel that, game after game, choked the life out of their opponent’s batting innings.
Kuldeep Yadav was the other slow bowler that reaped rewards, picking up two scalps in the Final, while Ravindra Jadeja’s accurate and quality execution was also on full display, finishing with figures of 1/30 off 10 overs.
It’s now back-to-back ICC events for India’s Men’s team, after their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup success last year. It sets them up to be the team to beat at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2028. (ANI)

In a significant and alarming revelation, former Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ahsan has warned that Pakistan is once again resorting to its old strategy of using jihadist groups as proxies to advance its geopolitical interests. In an article published in The Sunday Guardian, Ahsan claimed that Pakistan’s security establishment is facilitating the reactivation of militant groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Kashmir, with the aim of escalating instability in the region.
Pakistan’s Strategic Shift and Growing Frustration
Ahsan stated that Pakistan’s foreign policy has long been interventionist and shaped by a military mindset, prioritizing regional influence over internal stability. However, recent developments, particularly the strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between India and the Taliban-led Afghanistan, have reportedly left Pakistan frustrated. Islamabad had long sought to maintain its influence over Afghanistan, but the Taliban’s independent foreign policy, which includes fostering better relations with India, has put Pakistan’s establishment in a difficult position.
This growing India-Taliban closeness has compelled Pakistan to return to its traditional reliance on jihadi factions to maintain its influence in Kashmir and counter India’s regional ascendancy. Ahsan noted that the reactivation of these groups is not only a desperate attempt to revive the armed insurgency in Kashmir but also serves as a distraction from Pakistan’s mounting internal crises and diplomatic setbacks.
Reactivating Jihadi Groups in Kashmir
According to Ahsan, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has directed groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed to resume operations in Kashmir. He warned that the renewed activities of these groups could lead to increased violence, cross-border terrorism, and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
This revelation is particularly concerning as these organizations have long been accused of carrying out deadly attacks in India. LeT was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, while JeM has been linked to multiple suicide bombings, including the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian paramilitary personnel.
Ahsan also alleged that Pakistan has been using jihadist groups as a proxy arm of ISIS in Afghanistan, further fueling instability in the region. By backing these militant outfits, Pakistan is not only endangering Kashmir but also risking a broader conflict that could impact South Asia as a whole.
Pakistan’s Desperation Amid Internal and Global Pressure
Ahsan argued that Pakistan’s reliance on jihadist groups stems from its worsening internal situation. The country is facing a deep economic crisis, international pressure over its alleged links to terrorism, and increasing diplomatic isolation. These challenges have reportedly forced the Pakistani establishment to revert to old strategies of state-sponsored terrorism to deflect attention from its failing governance.
Pakistan has long faced accusations from India and the global community for harboring terrorist networks and providing them with logistical and financial support. In recent years, international watchdogs like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) have repeatedly placed Pakistan on its grey list for failing to curb terror financing. Reactivating jihadist groups in Kashmir could push Islamabad further into international scrutiny and invite stringent sanctions.
Regional Implications and India’s Response
India has consistently maintained that Pakistan is the primary sponsor of terrorism in Kashmir and has called for global action against Islamabad’s terror infrastructure. If Ahsan’s claims are accurate, this development could lead to increased cross-border attacks, security concerns, and a potential escalation in Indo-Pakistan hostilities.
New Delhi has strengthened counter-terrorism measures, enhanced border security, and intensified diplomatic efforts to expose Pakistan’s terror links on the global stage. The Indian government may also push for further economic and diplomatic sanctions against Pakistan if credible evidence emerges regarding the reactivation of jihadist groups in Kashmir.
Conclusion
Ehsanullah Ahsan’s warnings about Pakistan’s renewed efforts to reactivate jihadist groups in Kashmir are deeply troubling. If his claims hold true, South Asia could be on the verge of another cycle of violence and instability. The international community must closely monitor Pakistan’s activities and hold it accountable for any actions that threaten peace and security in the region. India, on its part, will need to stay vigilant and continue its diplomatic and strategic efforts to counteract these emerging threats.
A major controversy has erupted over a fashion show held at the famous ski resort of Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramzan. The event, which took place recently, has drawn widespread criticism from religious leaders, civil society, and the general public, with many calling it an attack on Kashmir’s cultural and religious values.
Prominent religious leader and chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, strongly condemned the event, labeling it an act of “obscenity in the name of tourism promotion.” Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mirwaiz expressed his outrage over the show, which sparked a heated debate after videos and images went viral online.
“Outrageous! That in the holy month of Ramzan, an obscene fashion show is organized in Gulmarg, pictures & videos from which have gone viral, sparking shock and anger among people. How could it be tolerated in the valley known for its Sufi, saint culture and the deeply religious outlook of its people? Those involved should be immediately held accountable,” Mirwaiz posted.
Reiterating his stance, he further added, “Such obscenity in the name of tourism promotion will not be tolerated in Kashmir.”
The event, reportedly organized as part of tourism promotion efforts, has left many questioning the authorities’ role in allowing such an event to take place during the sacred month. Several religious scholars and community leaders have also voiced their discontent, urging the administration to take strict action against those responsible.
Public Reaction and Political Response
The controversy has ignited a wave of anger among locals, who argue that the event was an insult to the sentiments of the Muslim-majority region. Many social media users have condemned the show, calling it an unnecessary and inappropriate activity, especially during Ramzan, a time of prayer, reflection, and spiritual discipline.
Some political parties and activists have also demanded an official inquiry into the matter. They have urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to clarify whether the event was organized with official approval or if there was a lapse in oversight.
Authorities Yet to Respond
As the backlash grows, authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter. It remains unclear if any action will be taken against the organizers of the event. However, the incident has once again brought attention to the ongoing debate over balancing tourism promotion with the cultural and religious sensitivities of Kashmir.
The situation continues to develop, with religious groups and civil society closely monitoring the response from officials. Whether the controversy leads to stricter regulations on public events during Ramzan remains to be seen.(NOK)
A violent clash erupted between two religious groups, Ahle Hadees and Deobandi, at Masjid Sideeqi in Razloo Kund on Saturday late evening, leaving at least 10 people injured. The incident created tension in the area, prompting police intervention to prevent further escalation.
According to police sources, the altercation started over a dispute between members of the two groups, which soon turned violent. Both sides engaged in physical assaults, leading to injuries. Authorities quickly responded to the situation, but the immediate arrests were not made due to the volatile atmosphere.
“There was a high risk of a breach of peace, and the culprits were not arrested on the spot. However, after the situation was brought under control, several individuals involved in the clash were taken into custody,” a police official said.
The injured persons were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical officials confirmed that most of them suffered minor injuries, while a few had more serious wounds requiring further medical attention.
Following the incident, the police registered an FIR under case number 126/170 BNSS Act and detained 10 individuals at Police Station Kund. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the dispute and identify those responsible for instigating the violence.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, urging authorities to take strict action to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Security forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, and additional patrolling is being carried out to ensure peace.
Officials have appealed to both groups to maintain harmony and resolve disputes through dialogue rather than violence. Further developments in the investigation are expected in the coming days-
Continuing its inspection drive to enforce discipline in the conduct of the examinations, the JKBOSE officials have framed unfair-means cases against 37 erring students today.

The Board had asked the School Education department also to constitute vigilance teams to supplement the efforts of the Board in ensuring transparency in the examinations.
The BOSE has cautioned the centre superintendents to be extra cautious in discharging their duties and help the Board in the conduct of the smooth and transparent examinations.
A newly released TV series, Muawiyah, has ignited a major controversy across the Middle East, particularly in Iran, Iraq, and Egypt. The 30-episode series, produced by Saudi Arabia’s Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC), portrays the life and rule of Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan, the founder of the Umayyad Caliphate. However, its depiction of historical events has led to heated debates, bans, and religious opposition in several countries.
The series focuses on the period following the assassination of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, leading to the rise of Muawiyah and the subsequent conflicts that shaped early Islamic history. Filmed in Tunisia, the show aims to provide a detailed look at Muawiyah’s life—not just as a ruler but as a human being with strengths and flaws.
Despite its historical backdrop, the series has been met with strong resistance, with critics arguing that it distorts history and could fuel sectarian tensions.
Bans and Criticism Across Countries
Iran’s Response
Iran has outright banned the series, with its media regulatory body, SATRA (Comprehensive Audiovisual and Television Regulatory Authority), accusing it of attempting to “sanitize the image of the Umayyad dynasty.” Iranian officials claim the show glorifies a controversial historical figure while ignoring the suffering of other key Islamic personalities during that time.
Egypt’s Al-Azhar Fatwa
In Egypt, the prestigious Al-Azhar University issued a fatwa (religious ruling) against the series. The institution objected to the portrayal of Sahaba (Companions of Prophet Muhammad), arguing that any dramatization of such figures should maintain their true dignity and status. Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta, a religious authority, stated that historical figures should not be misrepresented or their lives altered for entertainment purposes.
Iraq’s Ban Over Religious Sensitivities
Iraq’s Media and Communications Commission also imposed a ban, citing concerns that the show could increase sectarian tensions. Iraqi officials warned that airing Muawiyah could spark religious debates, especially during Ramadan, when the series was released.
Producers Defend the Show
The show’s director, Palestinian filmmaker Tarek Al-Arian, and its writer, Egyptian Khaled Saleh, have defended Muawiyah against the backlash. They insist that the series was not created to promote any political or religious agenda but rather to present a balanced historical perspective.
A statement from the production team highlighted that Muawiyah is depicted as a complex figure—neither entirely heroic nor villainous—allowing audiences to see him as a leader with human weaknesses.
MBC’s History with Controversial Islamic Dramas
This is not the first time MBC has faced criticism for a historical Islamic series. In 2012, the network produced a 31-episode drama about Caliph Umar ibn Al-Khattab, which also received backlash for portraying key Islamic figures on screen.
MBC, founded in 1991 and currently headquartered in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, has remained a dominant force in the Arab media industry. Despite past controversies, the network continues to produce historical and religious dramas, often stirring debates across the region.
Conclusion
The Muawiyah series has once again highlighted the sensitivity of historical portrayals in the Islamic world. While some view it as an attempt to shed light on a crucial period of Islamic history, others argue that dramatizing religious figures risks misrepresentation and sectarian tensions.
As the debate rages on, the bans in Iran, Iraq, and Egypt show how historical narratives remain deeply influential in contemporary religious and political discourse. Whether the series will continue airing in other regions remains to be seen, but its impact on the Middle East is undeniable.
A 28-year-old Kashmiri man, Faizan Rasool, has fallen victim to an international trafficking scheme, leaving his family in distress as they seek urgent government intervention for his release. Rasool, a resident of Safakadal, Srinagar, was misled with a fraudulent job offer and has now been held captive in Myanmar, where his captors demand a ransom of Rs 4.5 lakh for his release.
A Deceptive Promise Turned Nightmare
Faizan Rasool, like many other young men in search of better employment opportunities, trusted a friend who assured him of a lucrative job in Thailand. Unaware of the lurking danger, Faizan embarked on the journey, only to be smuggled into Myanmar, a country where human trafficking and job scams are on the rise. His family, now gripped with fear, pleads for urgent intervention, fearing that they may never see their son again.
Family’s Desperate Plea
Speaking to local media, Faizan’s father, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, expressed his helplessness and anxiety over his son’s safety. “We are devastated. If the J&K government does not act swiftly, we may lose our son forever. These traffickers are ruthless, and with each passing day, our fear grows stronger,” he lamented.
The family is unable to pay the ransom demanded by the captors. They have appealed to the authorities, both at the state and central levels, to step in and secure Faizan’s safe return.
Rising Cases of Job Scams and Human Trafficking
Faizan’s case is not an isolated incident. Recently, another Kashmiri youth returned home after his family managed to gather and pay a similar ransom. However, the financial burden left them struggling with deep debt. Cases like these highlight the growing trend of young men being deceived by fake job offers, only to find themselves trapped in foreign lands under horrific conditions.
Reports suggest that organized trafficking networks are actively targeting young job seekers, particularly from economically vulnerable backgrounds. The victims are often promised well-paying jobs abroad but are instead sold into forced labor or held for ransom.
Urgent Need for Government Action
As the frequency of such incidents increases, experts emphasize the need for stricter border controls, awareness campaigns, and legal action against fraudulent recruiters. Families affected by such schemes are calling upon the Indian government and international agencies to intervene and dismantle these trafficking networks.
The Jammu and Kashmir government, along with the Ministry of External Affairs, must work together to ensure Faizan Rasool’s safe return. Diplomatic channels should be activated to trace and rescue him, while stringent measures should be put in place to prevent further cases of human trafficking.
Conclusion
Faizan Rasool’s plight serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by job seekers who fall victim to trafficking scams. His family’s desperate plea for help underscores the urgent need for action. Without timely intervention, many more lives could be at risk. The government must take immediate steps to rescue Faizan and strengthen protections against human trafficking, ensuring that no family has to endure such anguish in the future.
As Faizan’s loved ones await a response from the authorities, the world watches, hoping that justice will be served and that he will safely return home.
As the winter chill begins to fade and the first signs of spring emerge in the Kashmir Valley, all eyes turn to one of the region’s most cherished natural wonders: the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar. Nestled between the serene Dal Lake and the majestic Zabarwan Hills, this sprawling floral paradise—Asia’s largest tulip garden—is gearing up for its much-anticipated 2025 season. With preparations in full swing, the garden promises a breathtaking display of over 1.7 million tulips across 73 vibrant varieties, setting the stage for a spectacular spring that will captivate visitors from around the globe.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh, has become synonymous with the arrival of spring in Jammu and Kashmir. Spanning an impressive 74 acres across seven terraced slopes, the garden transforms into a sea of color each year as millions of tulip bulbs burst into bloom. For 2025, the Floriculture Department has outdone itself, introducing five new tulip varieties to the existing 68, alongside an expanded area to accommodate the record-breaking 1.7 million blooms. This ambitious undertaking ensures that the garden remains a dynamic and ever-evolving attraction, drawing nature lovers, photographers, and tourists eager to witness its splendor.
The garden’s grand opening is slated for mid-to-late March—tentatively around March 19 or March 23, depending on the blooming cycle and weather conditions. This annual event coincides with the Tulip Festival, a cultural and horticultural celebration that highlights Kashmir’s natural beauty and rich heritage. Running for approximately 20 to 30 days, the festival offers the perfect window to experience the tulips at their peak, with early April often cited as the prime time to visit when the flowers are in full, radiant bloom.
A Legacy of Beauty and Tourism
Established in 2007 under the vision of then-Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the tulip garden was conceived as a means to extend Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist season beyond the traditional summer and winter months. What began with a modest 50,000 tulip bulbs imported from Holland has since blossomed into an internationally recognized landmark, earning accolades such as a ranking among the top five tulip destinations at the 2017 Tulip Summit in Canada and recognition by the World Book of Records. Today, it plays a pivotal role in boosting the local economy, with last year’s season alone attracting over 4.65 lakh visitors in just 25 to 30 days.
The garden’s success lies not only in its scale but also in its meticulous planning. The Floriculture Department plants bulbs in phases to prolong the blooming period, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the display for as long as possible despite the tulips’ delicate three-to-five-week lifespan. This year, additional enhancements—such as new parking facilities spanning four kanals (0.5 acres) and the inclusion of other spring flowers like hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and cyclamens—promise an even richer experience.
A Feast for the Senses
Stepping into the tulip garden is like entering a living painting. Rows upon rows of tulips in every imaginable hue—fiery reds, sunny yellows, soft pinks, deep purples, and pristine whites—stretch across the terraced landscape, framed by the snow-capped peaks of the Zabarwan Range and the shimmering waters of Dal Lake. The new varieties introduced for 2025 add fresh splashes of color and texture, from double-blooming tulips to exotic parrot tulips, ensuring that no two visits feel quite the same.
Beyond the tulips, the garden’s design enhances its allure. Water channels flow through the terraces, reflecting the vibrant blooms, while fountains and well-maintained walkways invite leisurely strolls. The air is filled with the subtle fragrance of flowers and the gentle hum of spring, offering a sensory escape that feels both tranquil and invigorating. For photographers, the garden is a dream come true, with endless opportunities to capture the interplay of light, color, and landscape against one of the most picturesque backdrops in the world.
A Cultural Celebration
The Tulip Festival is more than just a floral showcase—it’s a celebration of Kashmiri culture and hospitality. Visitors can expect a lineup of traditional music and dance performances, showcasing the valley’s rich artistic heritage. Local artisans set up stalls outside the garden, offering handmade crafts like intricately woven shawls, papier-mâché souvenirs, and wooden carvings—perfect keepsakes to commemorate the visit. Food stalls serve up authentic Kashmiri delicacies, from the hearty Rogan Josh and Gustaba to the soothing Kahwa tea, infusing the experience with the flavors of the region.
The festival also aligns with the broader “Bahar-i-Kashmir” (Spring of Kashmir) initiative, welcoming the season with open arms and reinforcing the garden’s role as a symbol of renewal and resilience. For many, it’s a chance to see Kashmir at its most vibrant, a stark contrast to the quiet, snow-laden winters that precede it.
Planning Your Visit
The tulip garden’s accessibility makes it an easy addition to any Srinagar itinerary. Located just 8 kilometers from Lal Chowk, the city’s main center, and 19 kilometers from Srinagar International Airport, it’s reachable by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or even a scenic hike for the adventurous. Entry fees remain affordable—typically ₹75 for adults, ₹30 for children, and ₹200 for foreigners—though prices may vary slightly in 2025, so it’s wise to check ahead. The garden operates daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with online ticketing options available to streamline entry and avoid crowds.
The best time to visit is from late March to mid-April, with the first two weeks of April offering the most dazzling display. The weather during this period is pleasantly cool, averaging 10°C to 20°C, ideal for outdoor exploration. Pair your visit with nearby attractions like the Mughal gardens of Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, or a shikara ride on Dal Lake, to fully immerse yourself in Srinagar’s springtime charm.
A Blooming Future
As preparations for 2025 reach their final stages, the excitement is palpable. Workers and floriculture experts are busy putting the finishing touches on the garden, ensuring that every bulb, pathway, and vista is ready to welcome the anticipated rush of visitors. With its blend of natural splendor, cultural richness, and innovative enhancements, Srinagar’s tulip garden is poised to outshine even its previous seasons, promising a spring spectacle that will linger in memory long after the last petal falls.
So, mark your calendars and pack your bags—Srinagar’s Tulip Garden is set to bloom, and a spectacular spring awaits in 2025! Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a culture seeker, or simply someone in search of beauty, this floral paradise offers an experience that transcends the ordinary, inviting you to witness Kashmir in its most enchanting season.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued 256 new notices for construction deviations in Pahalgam, adding to the growing concerns among locals over alleged bias in enforcement actions. Residents claim that while small homeowners are being penalized for minor extensions like bathrooms and storage spaces, large hotel owners who have constructed multi-story buildings with hundreds of rooms continue to operate without any action.
On Thursday, the Jammu and Kashmir government confirmed that a total of 256 notices had been issued under the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) for violations in construction regulations. This follows an earlier announcement of 269 notices, making it a total of 525 notices in recent weeks. The notices were issued as part of an official effort to curb unauthorized constructions in the region.
However, the move has sparked outrage among the local population, who argue that nearly 90% of these notices target small homeowners, particularly those who have built minor structures such as bathrooms or storage areas outside their homes. Many believe this enforcement is unfair, as it does not seem to apply equally to wealthy hoteliers who have built massive structures in the area.
Locals Raise Questions Over Selective Action
Residents have questioned why large hotels, some of which have constructed eight-story buildings with hundreds of rooms, have not received a single notice. They allege that authorities are focusing on small homeowners while ignoring big business interests in the region.
“Why are only locals being targeted? We have a right to build small extensions like bathrooms and stores. Meanwhile, luxury hotels are expanding without any restrictions,” said a local resident.
Another protester stated, “If the government is serious about maintaining Pahalgam’s natural beauty and preventing unauthorized construction, they should take action against everyone equally, not just the weaker sections of society.”
Waheed-ur-Rehman Para’s Role in Raising the Issue
MLA Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, had earlier raised a question in the Assembly about the total number of illegal and unauthorized constructions in Pahalgam. However, locals feel that he should have specifically asked how many of the notices were issued to small homeowners and how many were given to hoteliers.
They argue that the real issue is not just the number of notices but who is receiving them. “Waheed Para should have asked how many notices were given to local residents versus hotel owners. The government must answer this question,” said a resident.
Authorities Defend Their Actions
In response to these concerns, the Jammu and Kashmir government has maintained that the notices are issued based on clear violations of the law. The Chief Minister, who also serves as the Minister of Tourism, stated that the Pahalgam Development Authority is responsible for ensuring that all constructions adhere to legal permissions.
“The PDA is the nodal agency for checking deviations and unauthorized constructions in the notified areas. Demolition drives are carried out whenever required,” the minister said.
However, critics argue that enforcement should be fair and transparent. They demand that the government release a detailed breakdown of the notices, specifying how many were issued to local homeowners and how many to hotel businesses.
Growing Public Outrage
The issue has sparked protests in Pahalgam, with many locals calling for a review of the notices. They are demanding an independent investigation into the enforcement process to ensure that it is not biased against small property owners.
“We are not against laws, but they should apply to everyone. The government must take strict action against illegal hotel constructions as well,” said another resident.
The ongoing controversy has put pressure on the government to address public concerns and ensure fairness in its actions. As the debate continues, locals are determined to fight for their rights and seek justice in what they see as a deeply unfair situation.
Washington, D.C. – In a significant development, U.S. authorities have presented Shareefullah, a key suspect in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing, before a federal court in Virginia. Shareefullah, also known as Jafar, is accused of playing a crucial role in orchestrating the deadly attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport’s Abbey Gate, which killed 13 U.S. service members and approximately 170 Afghan civilians during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Shareefullah was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to senior U.S. officials, the suspect was tracked for months before his precise location was identified near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. On March 2, 2025, he was charged with providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, conspiracy to commit murder, and aiding in terrorist activities.
After his capture, Pakistan facilitated his extradition to the United States, where he was formally indicted. Shareefullah made his first court appearance on March 5, 2025, dressed in a blue prison uniform. The judge informed him that if convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. The court also assigned him a defense attorney, and an official translator was present during the proceedings.
Role in the Kabul Airport Bombing
According to FBI investigations, Shareefullah was a commander within ISIS-K (Islamic State-Khorasan Province), an affiliate of ISIS that has carried out multiple attacks in Afghanistan and neighboring countries. Intelligence reports suggest that he was directly involved in planning the Kabul airport attack by identifying a safe route for the suicide bomber to reach the crowded Abbey Gate entrance without detection. He also allegedly provided logistical support and guidance to the bomber, Abdul Rahman Al-Logari, who detonated an explosive device in the midst of evacuating civilians and military personnel.
The Kabul airport bombing, which occurred on August 26, 2021, was one of the deadliest attacks during the chaotic final days of the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan. The attack heightened tensions and prompted President Joe Biden to pledge retaliation against the perpetrators.
Links to Previous Attacks and ISIS-K Leadership
Investigators believe Shareefullah has been involved in multiple ISIS-K operations since 2016. He was reportedly a close associate of ISIS-K leader Shahab al-Muhajir and played a role in at least 21 attacks across Afghanistan. Intelligence sources indicate that Shareefullah was arrested by Afghan security forces in 2019 but escaped from prison in 2021 when the Taliban seized control of Kabul.
In addition to the Kabul airport bombing, U.S. authorities have linked him to the March 2024 terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in Moscow. Reports suggest that he provided training and operational guidance to militants involved in that attack.
U.S. and Pakistan Cooperation in Counterterrorism
The joint CIA-ISI operation that led to Shareefullah’s capture highlights ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between the U.S. and Pakistan. Following his arrest, U.S. officials, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Attorney General Pam Bondi, coordinated with Pakistani intelligence to expedite his transfer to American custody.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, in a recent address to Congress, acknowledged Pakistan’s role in the arrest and thanked the country for its assistance. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Shareefullah was apprehended in a border region and handed over to U.S. authorities after due process.
Legal Proceedings and Potential Sentence
During his court appearance, Shareefullah remained silent, communicating only through his translator. Prosecutors presented preliminary evidence indicating his direct involvement in planning the Kabul bombing. The prosecution emphasized that he provided crucial assistance to ISIS-K in targeting American troops and Afghan civilians during the evacuation.
Legal experts suggest that if convicted, Shareefullah could receive a life sentence under U.S. federal law. The next hearing is scheduled for later this month, where additional evidence, including intelligence gathered from his interrogation, is expected to be presented.
Impact on Global Counterterrorism Efforts
Shareefullah’s arrest and prosecution mark a major milestone in the fight against ISIS-K and global terrorism. U.S. defense officials assert that his capture has disrupted ISIS-K’s operational network and weakened its ability to carry out large-scale attacks. The move also sends a strong message to other extremist groups that those responsible for attacks against U.S. forces and civilians will face justice.
While ISIS-K remains a potent threat in Afghanistan and beyond, counterterrorism experts believe that Shareefullah’s arrest could lead to further intelligence breakthroughs, potentially exposing other high-ranking militants.
Conclusion
As Shareefullah’s legal proceedings continue in the U.S., the case underscores the ongoing efforts of international intelligence agencies to combat terrorism. The Kabul airport bombing remains a tragic event in recent history, but the apprehension of one of its key architects brings a measure of accountability and justice for the victims and their families. The world now watches as the U.S. judicial system decides the fate of a man accused of orchestrating one of the deadliest attacks of the 21st century.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today stated that the government is planning development in Bungus as an off-beat destination and that funds for providing some basic facilities for tourists have been allocated but the utilization of funds is linked to the forest clearance being granted, which is important for planned development of the area.
The Chief Minister was responding to a question by Member Sheikh Khurshed regarding the funds utilized for the development of Bungus Valley over the last two years.
As the in-charge Minister of the Tourism Department, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Legislative Assembly that the approved allocation for the current financial year 2024-25 is Rs. 30 lakh, with Rs. 24 lakh already released.
Replying during the Question Hour of the ongoing Budget Session, the Chief Minister stated that the entire land in Bungus Valley falls under the Forest Department.
Accordingly, the matter has been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara for intervention in identifying land parcels for the proposed works in consultation with the Forest department.
“Once the land parcels are identified by the Forest Department, the necessary permissions and NOCs shall be sought on the Parivesh Portal for Forest Clearance,” he informed.
To maintain ecological balance, the Chief Minister said the department has focused on avoiding the construction of massive buildings and hotels.
“The aim would be to develop the area as an eco-tourism destination. The department would focus on creating basic recreation facilities, rain shelters, public conveniences, signages, lighting, and waste disposal facilities for visitors,” he told the House.
Additionally, he stated that to safeguard the livelihood of local shepherds, nomads, and other inhabitants of Bungus Valley, the J&K Tourism Department has initiated the process of registering Paying Guest Houses in the area. “This will help to preserve and promote local culture, traditions, and cuisine and would be an immersive travel experience for tourists. The house was informed that 19 paying guest houses in the proximity of Bungus Valley are registered with the Department of Tourism, Kashmir.
The Chief Minister also stated that the Bungus Festival would be organized to provide wider publicity to this scenic destination.
The concept of “Naya Kashmir” has become synonymous with transformation and progress in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the government has implemented several initiatives aimed at fostering economic development, improving infrastructure, and diversifying the economy. While these changes have led to a visible shift in the economic landscape, challenges remain that need to be addressed for sustainable and inclusive growth.
One of the most significant aspects of economic transformation in Naya Kashmir is the surge in private and public investments. The government has actively promoted the region as a favorable investment destination by offering incentives and streamlining business processes. As a result, investments worth approximately ₹33,000 crore have been committed across various sectors. This influx of capital has spurred industrial development, job creation, and economic expansion.
Infrastructure Development
A strong emphasis has been placed on upgrading infrastructure, recognizing its importance for long-term economic growth. Key developments include:
Road and Transport Networks: Improved connectivity with upgraded highways, tunnels, and bridges, enhancing accessibility across the region.
Power and Energy Infrastructure: Strengthening of electricity grids and renewable energy projects to ensure stable power supply.
Digital Connectivity: Expansion of internet infrastructure, including the rollout of 4G and 5G services, fostering digital inclusion and e-governance. These initiatives are creating a more business-friendly environment and improving the quality of life for residents.
Tourism Revival
Tourism has traditionally been the backbone of Kashmir’s economy, and recent efforts to enhance security and infrastructure have led to a revival of this sector. Key factors driving this resurgence include:
Increased tourist footfall due to improved security measures.
Promotion of offbeat destinations and adventure tourism.
Revival of traditional handicrafts and cultural tourism, benefiting local artisans and small businesses. This revival is contributing to job creation, boosting local businesses, and reinforcing Kashmir’s status as a premier tourist destination.
Economic Diversification
Reducing reliance on traditional sectors has been a key focus of the government. Efforts are being made to strengthen and expand industries such as:
Agriculture and Horticulture: Promotion of high-value crops such as saffron, apples, and walnuts.
Fisheries: Expansion of trout farming as a means of generating additional revenue.
Handicrafts and Small-Scale Industries: Revival of Kashmiri Pashmina, carpet weaving, and other traditional crafts through government support and global marketing initiatives. By fostering a diversified economy, the region is becoming more resilient to external economic fluctuations.
Challenges and Considerations
Addressing Unemployment
Despite economic growth, unemployment remains a pressing issue. To tackle this, the government needs to:
Enhance vocational training and skill development programs.
Encourage startups and entrepreneurship by providing financial and infrastructural support.
Create more job opportunities in sectors beyond government employment. A comprehensive employment strategy will be crucial to ensuring that economic benefits reach all sections of society.
Environmental Sustainability
Rapid development poses environmental challenges, particularly in a region known for its fragile ecosystem. Sustainable development measures must include:
Strict environmental regulations to prevent deforestation and pollution.
Investment in eco-friendly tourism practices.
Promotion of renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Balancing development with environmental conservation is essential for long-term sustainability.
Political and Social Stability
Maintaining peace and stability is critical for sustained economic progress. Efforts should be made to:
Address political grievances through dialogue and confidence-building measures.
Strengthen law enforcement while respecting civil liberties.
Promote social cohesion and inclusivity in governance and policy-making. A stable socio-political environment will foster investor confidence and economic growth.
Conclusion
Naya Kashmir is witnessing a remarkable transformation, driven by investment, infrastructure development, and economic diversification. However, challenges such as unemployment, environmental concerns, and political stability must be addressed to ensure sustainable progress. By implementing strategic policies and inclusive development measures, Jammu and Kashmir can emerge as a model of economic resilience and prosperity. The vision of Naya Kashmir is within reach, but it requires continued efforts and collaboration from all stakeholders to fully realize its potential.
A fresh political storm has erupted in Maharashtra after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Member of Parliament Navneet Rana launched a fierce attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Azmi over his remarks on Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The controversy began when Azmi, the Maharashtra chief of the Samajwadi Party, stated that Aurangzeb was “not a cruel ruler” and had been misrepresented in history.
His remarks sparked outrage across party lines, with several leaders condemning his statements. Navneet Rana was among the most vocal critics, demanding strong action against Azmi and even calling for the demolition of Aurangzeb’s grave.
Navneet Rana’s Strong Reaction
Hitting out at Abu Azmi, Navneet Rana reminded him that Maharashtra is the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who fiercely resisted Mughal rule.
“The state in which you are elected to sit in the Assembly for five years was ruled by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. People like you should watch the movie Chhava to understand what Aurangzeb did to our king,” she said.
Taking her attack further, Rana suggested that Aurangzeb’s grave should be demolished, similar to how the name of Aurangabad was changed to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
“I want to request the Maharashtra government that the way Aurangabad’s name was changed and kept after our God, Sambhaji Maharaj, Aurangzeb’s grave should also be demolished. People who love Aurangzeb should decorate his grave in their homes,” she added.
Shiv Sena Calls for Action Against Abu Azmi
Navneet Rana was not the only leader to react strongly. The Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has also condemned Abu Azmi’s remarks and called for strict action against him. The party has demanded that a sedition case be filed against the SP leader and that he be suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly for glorifying Aurangzeb.
Shiv Sena leaders announced a statewide protest against statements they deemed disrespectful to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Many political figures have also urged the Maharashtra government to take a firm stance against any attempts to glorify Aurangzeb.
Abu Azmi’s Clarification
Amid the escalating political row, Abu Azmi issued a clarification, claiming that his words had been distorted.
“My words have been twisted. I have only said what historians and writers have written about Aurangzeb Rahmatullah Alaih. I have not made any derogatory comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Maharaj, or any other great leaders. But if anyone has been hurt by my statement, I take back my words,” Azmi stated.
He further accused the opposition of using the controversy for political gains, saying, “This issue is being made into a political controversy. The Maharashtra Assembly Budget Session being disrupted over this issue is harming the people of Maharashtra.”
Historical Perspective: Who Was Aurangzeb?
Aurangzeb Alamgir, the sixth and last powerful Mughal emperor, ruled India from 1658 to 1707. He was the son of Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, and was known for his strict adherence to Islamic law. Aurangzeb’s reign lasted nearly 50 years, making him one of the longest-serving rulers in Indian history.
Aurangzeb’s Services and Contributions to India
Despite being a controversial figure, Aurangzeb made significant contributions to the Indian subcontinent in various fields:
1. Military Expansion
Aurangzeb expanded the Mughal Empire to its greatest territorial extent, conquering large parts of South India, including the Deccan and modern-day Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. His military campaigns significantly increased the Mughal Empire’s reach.
2. Administrative Reforms
Aurangzeb was a strict administrator who worked towards a disciplined and centralized government. He reformed the revenue system and introduced a more organized taxation structure, which improved financial efficiency.
3. Infrastructure and Public Works
During his reign, Aurangzeb commissioned the construction of roads, bridges, mosques, and caravanserais (roadside inns for travelers). He also built the famous Bibi Ka Maqbara in Aurangabad, often called the “Taj Mahal of the Deccan.”
4. Legal System
Aurangzeb codified Islamic law (Sharia) into official state policy. He compiled the Fatawa-e-Alamgiri, a legal text that served as a judicial guide for Islamic scholars and judges.
5. Religious Policies
Aurangzeb’s religious policies remain one of the most debated aspects of his rule. While he enforced strict Islamic laws, including banning certain festivals and imposing the Jizya tax on non-Muslims, his administration also had Hindu nobles and officers, including trusted commanders like Raja Jai Singh and Raja Jaswant Singh.
6. Economic Growth
Despite his heavy military spending, Aurangzeb’s reign saw economic growth in various sectors, including trade, handicrafts, and textiles. Mughal India remained one of the world’s largest economies during his rule.
Legacy and Controversy
Aurangzeb’s rule remains deeply controversial. While some historians credit him for his military prowess and administrative efficiency, others criticize him for his religious intolerance and harsh policies against non-Muslims. His execution of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in 1689 remains a painful chapter in Maharashtra’s history, which is why many leaders, including Navneet Rana, oppose any positive reference to him.
His policies eventually weakened the Mughal Empire, leading to internal rebellions, including the rise of the Marathas under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. By the time of his death in 1707, the Mughal Empire was already in decline, and within a century, it had collapsed under British rule.
Conclusion
The controversy surrounding Abu Azmi’s remarks on Aurangzeb highlights the deep political and historical sensitivities associated with the Mughal ruler’s legacy in India. Navneet Rana’s call for the demolition of Aurangzeb’s grave has further fueled the debate, with the Shiv Sena demanding strong action against Azmi. While Aurangzeb remains a significant historical figure, his legacy continues to spark heated discussions in contemporary Indian politics.
The incident also reflects how historical narratives are often used in political discourse, shaping public sentiment and influencing electoral strategies. Whether or not any action will be taken regarding Aurangzeb’s grave remains to be seen, but the controversy has once again brought his complex and polarizing legacy into the national spotlight.

Peoples Conference president and MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone, on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly over the disallowing of his amendments regarding Article 370, police verification, and the shifting back of detainees lodged in jails outside J&K.
Peoples Conference president and MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone, on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly over the disallowing of his amendments regarding Article 370, police verification, and the shifting back of detainees lodged in jails outside J&K.
After the question hour ended, Lone stood up and questioned Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather over the disallowing of his amendments regarding Article 370, a probe into the rigging of the 1987 election, and PSA detentions.
The Speaker said that they had been disallowed under the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the House.
Lone had submitted seven amendments to the LG’s address; however, only two were allowed. In his amendments, Lone had submitted that there was no mention of Article 370, doing away with the existing police verification system, and a probe into the rigging of the 1987 polls in the LG’s address. Lone said that there was no mention of Article 370 in the resolution passed in the J&K Assembly in the last session.
“We are victims of police verification, and the rules are very stringent. I am myself a victim. Nobody should be punished for what their kins have done. We cannot keep quiet on these issues,” he said.
Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat supported Lone’s argument that police verification should be discussed and debated in the House. “You should have kept the repeal of PSA in the LG’s address if you had an intention,” Lone said. To this, the Speaker said that these matters pertain to the Ministry of Home Affairs. “It cannot be done unless the state is restored,” he said.
Angered by the Speaker’s refusal to allow the amendments to the LG’s address, Lone staged a walkout from the House—(KNO)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is making diplomatic efforts to repair relations with the United States following a tense exchange with former US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House. Amid growing uncertainty over continued American military support, Zelenskyy has turned to European leaders, securing fresh commitments for defense assistance and emphasizing Ukraine’s need for strong security guarantees.
During a recent high-profile meeting, Donald Trump reportedly criticized Zelenskyy for what he called Ukraine’s “gambling with World War Three.” Trump, who has expressed skepticism about continued US involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war, argued that American aid had prolonged the conflict rather than resolved it. He claimed that Ukraine had already received $350 billion in military and financial support, referring to the aid provided under Joe Biden’s administration as a decision made by a “stupid president.” Trump suggested that without US assistance, the war would have ended within two weeks, a remark that further strained relations between Washington and Kyiv.
Vice President JD Vance, a key Trump ally, also took issue with Zelenskyy’s stance, accusing him of being “disrespectful.” The heated exchange marked a significant moment of tension, raising concerns about whether a future Trump administration would continue to support Ukraine at the same level as previous administrations.
Zelenskyy’s Diplomatic Push in Europe
In response to the White House clash, Zelenskyy intensified his diplomatic outreach in Europe, receiving significant backing from key allies. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron hosted a summit in London, where 18 European leaders gathered to discuss Ukraine’s future and European security.
During the summit, the UK announced a new £1.6 billion ($2 billion) defense deal, allowing Ukraine to purchase 5,000 air-defense missiles through export finance. The deal underscores Britain’s continued military support for Ukraine, reinforcing the message that European nations are committed to countering Russian aggression.
France and the UK also indicated their willingness to deploy troops to Ukraine, a move that would mark a significant escalation in direct European involvement in the war. Additionally, Starmer and Macron emphasized the need to draft a ceasefire proposal to present to the United States, aiming to shape future diplomatic negotiations.
Zelenskyy Reaffirms Gratitude to the US
Despite the White House confrontation, Zelenskyy sought to reaffirm Ukraine’s gratitude toward the United States. In a statement on social media platform X, he acknowledged the vital role American support has played in preserving Ukraine’s independence.
“Of course, we understand the importance of America, and we are grateful for all the support we’ve received from the United States. There has not been a day when we haven’t felt gratitude,” Zelenskyy said, highlighting the significance of international assistance in Ukraine’s resilience against Russia.
He also maintained that Ukraine’s relationship with the US extends beyond individual political moments, emphasizing the importance of keeping diplomatic channels open. “This is more than relations during a certain moment. We must be open,” he said, adding that he remains willing to return to the US for further discussions if invited.
European Leaders Strengthen Support for Ukraine
During the summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Romanian Interim President Ilie Bolojan, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined forces to discuss ways to boost military aid and long-term security commitments for Ukraine.
Trudeau announced new sanctions against Russian-linked paramilitary organizations and key Kremlin allies, aiming to further weaken Russia’s ability to sustain its war efforts. Meanwhile, other European leaders stressed the importance of increasing Europe’s defense cooperation, especially as uncertainty looms over the future of US involvement in NATO.
“We are all with you and the people of Ukraine for as long as it takes,” Starmer assured Zelenskyy, describing the summit as a “once-in-a-generation moment for the security of Europe.”
Concerns Over US Commitment to NATO
The meeting also addressed rising concerns about the US’s commitment to NATO, given Trump’s past criticism of the alliance. European leaders are increasingly considering ways to bolster their own defense capabilities, reducing reliance on American military support.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a staunch Trump ally, criticized the summit’s approach, arguing that European leaders were choosing to prolong the war rather than pursue peace. “They go on with the war instead of opting for peace – this is bad, dangerous, and mistaken,” Orbán stated.
Looking Ahead: Ukraine’s Diplomatic Balancing Act
As Ukraine navigates its diplomatic challenges, Zelenskyy’s strategy appears to focus on strengthening European partnerships while keeping diplomatic channels open with the United States. The growing uncertainty over future US support makes European backing more critical than ever.
While the latest summit reinforced Europe’s commitment to Ukraine, the broader geopolitical landscape remains uncertain. Zelenskyy’s ability to maintain strong international alliances will be crucial in determining Ukraine’s future security and defense capabilities in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Conclusion
Zelenskyy’s recent diplomatic efforts underscore his determination to secure continued support for Ukraine amid shifting global political dynamics. While tensions with the US remain, the Ukrainian leader has successfully rallied European allies to step up their contributions. As the war continues, Ukraine’s fate will largely depend on how effectively it can balance its relationships with both the US and Europe while ensuring sustained military and economic assistance.
